Jesus was always quoting scripture like any good rabi was he?
I read something very different. Interesting, same book, some people hear and see different things than others. Who was Jesus constantly denouncing as false teachers and as sons of the devil and as serpents and vipers? He was denouncing the very ones who quoted scripture over and over to him, the scribes and the pharisees. When Jesus quoted scripture, it was usually in response to the fundamentalist who were quoting scripture to him trying to prove him wrong and trip him up based on outer rules and laws. He would quote scripture back such as: 10:30 I and [my] Father are one. 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 10:32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? Ye are Gods is what Jesus said. I and my father are One. Yet some would call this blasphemy. Specifically the ones that had Jesus crucified, they would call this blasphemy. They would quote their trusty bible in the face of the Living Word. What did Jesus have to say about those who were the most knowledgeable in scripture and constantly quoting it to let the people know how terrible they were and how they better repent or the great Jehovah would punish them? He said: You're sons of vipers. You do the works of your father the devil. Outside you act all clean and like you are so holy, but inside you are filled with dead mens bones. etc. etc. etc. These same ones who claimed to be so close to God and have God in the book. These are the same ones that had Jesus put on the cross. Would not the same happen today from fundamentalist leaders who worship with their lips but not in their hearts? The laws of Life are written on our inward parts, they are empowering and they are love based. Are we listening is the key question. Last edited by 14 Chakras; 10-17-2009 at 09:13 PM. |
