Even in the polytheistic societies, there was one god at the peak of the pantheon that was responsible for creating the rest of them. Ancient people personified this in stories depicting the gods mating and giving birth to others.
I think that what most people don't realize is that polytheism is not the belief that there is an absence of one creator. It is an expansion and more systematic structured paradigm where in all of the aspects of the creator have thier own individual names. Lets use an analogy. If you say that you believe that there are individual programs with names in your computer that all have specific abilities, are you saying that the computer that contains and generates these programs does not exist? |
