Each day lasts 26,000 years (or maybe its 14,000, or 3,600 years), the civilizations just keep rebuilding/repeating until one of them finally gets it right. They seem to keep blowing themselves (we/us) up so far though... so who knows what will happen this go round.

If you are only looking at astrological and geological events this is a logical conclusion to come to. However, while our solar system has been going through these repeating cycles, the evolution of consciousness has not been repeating. During all of these cycles it has been evolving and compressing for the entire universe.

There are 2 cycles ending this time around instead of just one. The first cycle is he one you mention, the so called "Great Year". The second cycle is the universal cycle of the evolution of consciousness which is 16.4 billion years long and ends Dec. 21 2012.

This end of the second cycle will also bring to an end the repeating nature of the great year.
