You see if you act one way in one place and another way in another place then that is looking rather two-faced to me. I did today come up with "nasty bananas" all on my own - then there it is at astrovera, complete with lots of them. Is there something I misinterpret here?

Your apologies on those two threads were appreciated. At first I wanted to zap you with some choice zingers, but like begets like and that's not where I want to spend my life energy, in a war of words.

I am 100% for trying to clear up misread communication, apologizing where apologies are due, and thank you for that. The truth is I called Kerry myself yesterday about upgrading the way the forum is moderated and I was asking for a conference call where we would all discuss it, then next thing I knew, poof there was her post. I saw how some were feeling a great injustice had been done to them and I have been working to change how moderating is done on this forum in the future. Kind and gentle communication is the key as far as I'm concerned. Just talk, clear things up. Sure I may have much more serious disposition than some of you jokers (meant lovingly), but I don't see it as part of my mission to be the comedian. That job belongs to others. I think all can be allowed to express their own personality!

So if you have taken a mean approach to me because I am now one of the evil nazi mods - then you don't know what I'm doing every day behind the scenes to change things for the better at Avalon. Or maybe that's just your personality style. I don't go around looking to pick a fight with anyone. So maybe we understand each other a little bit better now?

My two encounters with you earlier today do not make you look like someone I want on a moderating team with me. But, I'll check you out a little more before voting no. I do agree on much of your campaign platform.

Peace out,
And you comedians out there, keep it light!
Karen

LONG LIVE THE NASTY BANANAS SLASH VOTE HISTORYCIRCUS!

Oh, and Historycircus, being I'm from Maine and all which is like your East coast version of Alaska, could I be your rogue partner in crime, your second hand man with the crazy hair doo? I'm great at cult innuendo btw and I got references to back it up.

Edit note: This is so my 420th post, no way! And on that notion I would like to reenact Proposition 420 as my initial campaign promise.

I'm glad unthinking sheep don't like the positive version of the swastika that's why I put it there specially for you to go nuts and pull your hair out like it's a scary big deal. Oh no the swastika. Run for the hills it's a bad impression.

Hijack Shmijack,

Anyway, the swastika can be off-putting, however, it is an old Native American symbol that represents the four winds. Think about winds swirling around - that is what the symbol means, at least in the good days.

Then the Nazis appropriated it. Then it became "bad."

It is both "good" and "bad," depending on context.

Now, let's get this election going folks.

Who will have me as moderator? And Dean, you already voted no, so technically I'm not asking you.

well, imo.. (and i know your not asking me , since i already voted).. lol

but,

i dont think mods should be choosing themselves anymore...

thats not how it works other places, and not sure if you could tell... but it hasnt worked the geatest here, even though there are some wikked cool mods here, at the begininning it wasnt working the greatest.. still not sometimes...

I dont think ppl should choose themselves as mods.

also, you have kindof an attitude, unpleasant sometimes, with simple things, snippy at ppl for no reason with rude remarks.

Mods def shouldnt act like that.

n im not trying to point fingers and faults, as i have plenty of my own..

Just sayin... a moderator isnt just about editing and deleting posts and cleaning up the forum.. someone who moderates a place like this needs pretty decent PR skills..with all people....

heh, wish my pr skills were better sometimes i assure ya. lol

later gator.

I didn't know Kerry and Bill had approved of moderator election campaigns. Did this happen last night while I was asleep?

Historycircus, I'm not going to vote for you because I think you're up to something that has an agenda attached to it. Mods with agendas as not a good idea IMO.

No agenda - I see a lot of people complaining about mods, and I figured this election thing might serve two purposes: 1) allow Avalonians to pick one of their own mods, and 2) to have a little fun after what was a couple of days of pretty rancorous debate over the subscription thing. Honestly, I have no hidden agenda, or whatever.

Thanks, and no matter what you decide, yay or nay, just vote.

Thanks for the post Reunite, but I don't want this thread to turn into a referendum on current mods.

Thanks

While all this swastika stuff is fun (nothing like discussing the primary symbol of the world's worst and deadliest political party to add a cheer to the thread), there is something more important and fantastic to discuss:

My candidacy for moderator.

Universal health care for none!

I can't believe how many libertarian/republican every man for himself types there are on this forum. Sorry for the labeling (which I hate) but it seems to express my thoughts at the moment.

If we're all about surviving and building a new better world how do you propose doing that if it's dog eat dog survival of the fittest?

"Universal health care for none" was supposed to be funny because if elected, I would have absolutely no powers whatsoever to create a good health care plan. Just a joke - not a deep statement of political philosophy. I am sorry if you took offense.

I actually support universal health care in the analog world . . .

It's elemental in child psychology that by ignoring kids acting out and not giving them any energy their behavior tends to change.

Apparently, my attempts at humor have been ill recieved, and for that I apologize. I have a tendancy to let my irreverence interfere with the effective communication of my ideas; let me dispense with the humor and make a serious attempt to re-explain what I'm doing here.

After reading Kerry Cassidy's post on the mods, I did a lot of thinking about recent conflicts between regular posters and moderators, and tried to figure out what, if anything, could ever be done to curb what will ALWAYS be a source of tension on forums like these. I myself have never had any posts edited or bad run ins with the mods - except for Karen yesterday, and that was peanuts compared to some of the mod/poster arguments I have seen. It dawned on me that if one or two of the moderators were picked by the forum members, that could possibly cut down on the mod/poster tension - I don't think anything could ever end it permanently, but moderator elections might reduce it.

Then I thought about getting that idea out there to people, and the first thing I wanted to do was start a thread titled "Should We Have Mod Elections?" Then I realized that that would be yet another thread where we sit around and debate, and argue, etc. I figured rather than start a fight over "should we" or "shouldn't we," I'd nominated myself and plant the seed. Why not? I like Avalon, I think moderator elections are a good idea, and a vote would be fun. I really didn't think there was anything to argue about there - people would come, vote, and maybe post why they gave their yay or nay. Believe you me, I was - and am - prepared for the negative stuff; I know the serious ideas (not the jokes) I have about the issues here on Avalon and Camelot put me in the minority. I just figured there would be nothing to fight about, or get offended over - it would be an up and down vote on the group's confidence in my moderating abilities.

That I will ultimately lose, well, is a given (although winning would be cool too). I guess what is most dissappointing, and surprising given that most here bemoan their lack of a real influence or voice in the power structures of the real world, is the voter turnout. How many thousands of people have accounts here? And only 50 people have voted - a third commiting to the useless options? This experience, at least slightly, harkens back to the comments I made on another thread earlier this week (or possibly late last week); much of the lack of power we have over the real world's socioeconomic systems is our own fault - the PTB have enjoyed increasing, unbridled power because of our own apathy and real world inaction. Many would blame the NWO for the world's problems; I think we should blame ourselves.

The course this thread has taken is not exactly what I envisioned when I started it, but it is the poll that is worth it all. If you don't want to post here, at least vote. If you don't want to vote for me, get together via the PM system or the private boards and figure out who to nominate, and put them to a public vote. I second the nomination of both eXchanger and the Flyingpyramid.

Again, I think that having one or two mods out of the whole group come from the main body of posters is fair, potentially calming, and just a good idea. They should also be term limited seats.

I am truly sorry if I have offended anyone in any way, and I hope this sets it right.
