Bump,
hope you're all OK out there and staying safe and well into your preparations - which would explain why we're all a bit quite on the threads at the moment......... Bill & Kerry, if you're still here in Oz does that mean you'll be around to attend/speak at the Mind, Body & Spirit Festival in Sydney during early Nov??? Blessing to all, Vesta |

Hi again all,
just while I think of it the question was raised during discusion between Manda, Misfit, Pablo and myself last w/e as to the availability of native bushfoods. I was wondering if perhaps the different regions GC's could look into this and perhaps post what was readily accessed in their area for others that may consider the area for relocation or transition through and be needing to supplement their food sources? Love and light, Vesta. |

Hi Tez,
you're right about the timing but I was hoping that Bill & Kerry might be sniffing around a few good stories on this great sthn land 'cause there's plenty of that here and would give them the opportunity to broaden their reports to increase news of the sthn hemisphere - a girl's gotta dream about something besides shoes right??? ![]() ![]() Thanks for the food link, I think it's really important for us all to have that sort of knowledge to hand, because should we need to move from our now current area of residence I am certain the time of yr and food availability will influence our decisions as to how/where we travel........ so this is a call out to other GC's around the country for similar information to share amongst us all. Blessings to all, Vesta. |

Any idea’s of how we can still communicate should this site be closed, or indeed if, the net goes down.

My thoughts on this are based on, mainly because Oz, and indeed all of its individual states are so large, that trying to get the word out to many in all areas so that all can have access to a "local" GC area, and each local area can also interact as one if possible due to extremes of distance. Making contact and exchanges of contact information, as necessary. Just like the October and November meeting already arranged if possible and to be able to build on community from there. Biggest problem at this stage is that many are so widely dispersed that regular contact/meeting may be virtually impossible, but at least if we are able to maintain a list of each of out contacts that we are able to establish, if the 'net goes down we may still have phone contact or some other arranged method of keeping that contact.............. As an example, my closest contacts from here, timewise by road, are 2, 3, 3-1/2, and 5 hours away. Would like to hear a few thoughts on this as well........... Cheers, Tez Last edited by Tez; 10-12-2008 at 03:39 AM. |

Hi Tez, Wags and all GC's,
I think this is so important and why we all need to be able to make that initial contact with others in our 'immediate vicinities' and also build contact's within other regions as well........... if it all goes down and we have to rely on some really old-fashioned methods of comm's and movement then it would be nice to have an already established network on whom we could : (a) rely & (b) have trust in For myself, I have started by using a map of this country and drawing concentric, radiating rings around my current location. I am then populating information onto this map about which GC member's are in those areas and what food/water/shelter is available. I have also been annotating mileage by road and appx times expected to take to reach said areas under duress - we need to be real about the fact that there may be roads that are blocked, (like when the equine flu outbreak occurred and tptb prevented travel to/from certain parts of the state........). I have made my map purchases those of topographical maps as these also indicate far more accurately the rise and fall of the land, just because on a flat map it looks the shortest route doesn't mean you can use it - unless you've got abseiling equipoment in your backpack......... ![]() That is the sort of thing and more that I wish to discuss with you all when we do catch up. Blessings, Vesta. |

Hi all,
here's another link to a ninemsn article from less than 20 mins ago by our PM stating 'Prime Minister Kevin Rudd announced the government would guarantee all deposits being held in Australian financial institutions for the next three years'. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=645728 I guess it's really important for all of us to stay informed about our $$$ and what the fallout will be for all of us 'cause I don't think tomorrow is going to very pretty - kinda like Friday .... For NSW GC member's here's another link, looks like we're about to start paying our dues, expect the already eroded state services to decline further...... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=645735 Blessings, Vesta. |

Wags I am an IT WAN Consultant. Whose resourcefulness depends on the access of information on the NET, to be cut off from this source hurts. My efforts in such events would be focussed on setting up an eco friendly wifi access point and encouraging people in line of sight establishment to host beacon/repeater stations where there is a will there is a way. get a wireless router and good qualtiy external Aerial or CB UHF transmitter recievers what ever attached to your laptop Meanwhile create your own digital survival/time capsule and DOWNLOAD and ARCHIVE. Military survival guides, instructions for simple windmill power conversions of alternators from cars. Water purification. Hydroponics info, ECO building, HAM RADIO, philosophical excerpts... THEN BURN THEM TO CD, DVD, old hard drives everthing you can muster and seal them away in a big magnetic shielded something buried under the ground (Containers some of you are talking about), ready to broadcast later free to air. Your stock pile of hope fully useful bits of info can help sculpt a new society where we never have to worry about losing access to a collective conciseness again... dont have faith in telstra and corprate established infrastructure open for censorship like the China olympic firewall debarkle http://thezeitgeistmovement.com/synopsis.htm this stuff must get out! Creativity and technology is the key. get out there grab it archive it safely ready to broadcast in new hope... ILL BE THERE, making my HOTSPOT! PS dont forget the books and a scanner LOL |

all these forums should be able to be downloaded daily by a simple click. for the abilty to archive for such an event. for future reference
information is everthing internet must be built by the people for the people. everyone obtain a wireless router its a start of sorts. and consider LINUX a free alternative to the corprate Branded MicroSoft where virus's run riot. |

Darcman I envy your skills, by comparison I’m limited to the power of speech and action.
Thanks for input, we may need to implement action sooner than later. |

Morning all,
Don't know if anyone wants to put this to the test and report back on it's validity but if this is for real - what a boon for us all! My B-I-L has just sent a video were you leave 1/4 inch of mountain dew in a bottle, 3 capfuls of hydrogen peroxide, tiny bit of baking soda and put them all into a screwtop bottle and shake vigorously to mix. I don't know how long the resultant mix lasts as a day-glow product or how bright it will be but if someone has the time to test this theory and see if (a) it really works & (b) how long this product then lasts then post back on here with results, I'm sure a lot of us will appreciate it. If This works it could prove a cheap and effective emergency lighting for us all should we need it!!! Blessings, Vesta. |

Hi Tez,
bought myself and family members some of these several yrs back from Dick Smith Electronics - they are brilliant for ppl being away from all other comm's options and even if not able to spk to others at the very least you can hear what is going on in the world....... Love & light, Vesta. |

Further to the previous link regarding native foods, i also had this one bookmarked and only just again came across it. "Our Indigenous Garden - An Internet WebQuest on Aboriginal Use of Native Plants" Introduction states: "In this WebQuest you will explore the plants used by the Australian Aborigines for food, shelter, medicine and utensils, and the technology they employed to fully utilise the resources available." In case you guys missed it in the news last week new radio wave frequency body scanners will be in use in 3 major airports around the country. Now airport employee's will be able to watch us so called terrorists naked via x-ray vision as we walk through customs.

Do you think that if you asked nicely, they would turn the juice up and give you a nice suntan? You know - a nice healthy glow
