He could have slipped away there

from the sleeping disciples and the posterity


He could have walked away


just vanish into the night

as a shadow amongst the shadows


and make the words of the prophets vain

but save so much bloodshed


He could have walked away


walked as in the Via Appia vision

on the road to Rome

where Peter was fleeing persecution


astonished Peter asked

Where are you going Lord

Jesus answered in the rays of the rising sun

I am going to Rome to be crucified again


Peter turned and went with Him
