I wondered about your thoughts regarding weapons for self-protection, and whether the regular readers of the spirituality threads owned a gun and what your thoughts were on it.
I don't own one, nor do my housemates. |

I never grew up around guns...they were never in my house. My husband has a gun...but I make him keep it locked and well hidden....I'm afraid I might shoot him sometime..Just kidding

yes, and i know how to use them.
for one thing, i hunt for food. i live in an area where large animals are common. i had to kill a bear last summer on my front porch. guns are important tools. |

No guns in ours and in our extended families. We live in suburbia so I guess we don't need them nor want them.

Even thought I have never had a gun..I still believe in the right to own one...for the very reason listed above...PROTECTION.
I have always never felt the need for that kind of protection, so I never had one. |

i tried to chase him away the day before, but he cam back. i had to shoot him through the kitchen window. i felt badly, cuz i'm not wild about bear meat, but i gave the carcass to a friend who loives it, and had the hide tanned.
but, i believe that your questions was deeper than that. i know how to use them and if someone attacked my home, threatened me or mine, i WOULD use them. in that case, those people would be much like the bear. |

Brook & OPF -
I agree with the right to own them and use them if necessary. I have some 'evolved' friends who feel incredibly protected by the unseen beings, etc; so to them, it is not needed to have a weapon. I live in Connecticut, there have been several 'home invasions' here over the past year - the first terrible one on the Petit family - a physician's home was entered by two men (who were not taking drugs) and it ended in tragedy. Since then, more followed and more ppl were killed. In Hartford, the small city nearby, there are shootings every day. Do I always feel safe? Not really. It opens a can of worms for me to think about getting a weapon like a gun. Could I really shoot a person? |

Yes, many, and would I use them? of course for protection and hunting, but I grew up with them and have been shooting since I was 6 years old, so I don't even think twice about it. They're just another tool in life.

Let me be silly for a moment here:
I am more for "an elegant weapon for a more civilised age". I've never been in trouble, hardly even seen a real weapon save on policemen. My protection against modern warfare I will thus leave in the hands of my guards (even though I have nil proof of there ever being one, apart from never being in trouble). If it does come to man against man though I will trust in my education of stick fighting which would hardly ever result in anything mortal. I think if you DO kill someone, one should have to do it by force, not by pushing a button. That would at least teach what it means to take a life. |

Hey Czymra I thought you were a Japanese sword fighter type dude, taking classes, what do they call it, um Kawasaki, or Suzuki, or Nagasaki or something like that? HaHa (just kidding). It was in the thread about the pigeons on the roof of that building every day.

As I said, this is merely to prevent more violence. Having the other guy on the opposite end of a 2m stick I'd have issues even armed with a knife. It's all about the reach. But hey, as I said, guns or large blades and I'm running, the only wise choice for most conflicts anyway. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...inata_sune.jpg |

Good belly chuckles all of your comments above....
This topic has arisen before w/friends... whether or not you would acutally kill a person to protect your family, yourself.... There are those that are more "evolved" that believe 'thou shalt not kill' will prevail in their lives... hi-dee-hi, hi-dee-ho, I say... YOU JUZ NEVER KNOW til it happens. That is a fact to me.... ya never know how you will respond unless you are critically trained....which I'm not....and I have had a life or death crisis. What did I do? If I'd had about 4 more seconds there would have been a dead man in my house, the chanber would have been emptied!.... howeeeeeeeeeeeever, I did not have those extra mere seconds..... thus I have scars in my heart & mind even tho I "forgave" the matter automatic, afterwards, while laying in bed in the fetal position & couldn't swallow food for almost a year.... the reflex to swallow became confused... what can I say, even the body has a mind of its own... I "thought" I was fine, however...the body "betrays" your mind, tells you more truth that you care to admit. SO. point is... you are left to your beliefs...once again. I tell you true... I will not hesitate to kill a person or animal that trespasses w/intent to kill my Life or another's.. if I have the time & space. And will not look back. BTW... your body is a weapon... however I was (as in formerly) ignorant of such things. Ignorance costs sometimes a lot!!! Heartfelts. |

I think that the mere attitude of owning a weapon is asking for trouble but that might be reserved for the more spiritual on the board. Regards EpiphaMe, it's good you mention that. Dogs don't know Kung Fu and you still don't want to mess with one. Going ape**** might just save your life. |

I've never had anything more dangerous than a Daisy BB Gun...and I almost shot my eye out! I support the 2nd Ammendment...but I also support classes, tests, and screenings to make sure that only responsible people who know how to properly use guns...actually have them...legally at least. I'm trying to focus on disaster preparedness, home security systems, non-lethal self-defense, and basic wilderness survival skills. I haven't gotten very far with these subjects...but the way things are going in the world...I may pick up the pace! I can't imagine shooting anyone! I hate to kill a fly! I also like the idea of well-regulated state militias...with an all-volunteer state army under the command of the governor of each state. Bases would be well supplied by tax-dollars...with C-130's, APC's, etc. The purpose would be for disaster relief, firefighting, manhunts, search and rescue, sovereignty challenges, border and port security, etc. This seems to be in perfect harmony with the spirit and letter of the 2nd Ammendment. This wouldn't be a bunch of renegade anarchists running in the streets with their sawed-off shotguns!

Yes,the body remembers. It stores its memories - even when mind wants otherwise - classic of PTSD. Being a woman in the US, where you never know who is carrying a weapon or gun, I will say that I have been chased by a man/men I didn't know four times, yes, I was running away and got away; been attacked by others twice - and injured. As I get older, I find there is more fear of walking alone, even during the day. I had a 140 lb dog for 11 yearsand felt safe when he was there, now I have an 11lb one. ![]() |

Yes, I think I'm going to have to 'bite the Bullet' lol and get myself a gun. Not to protect myself from intruders primarily, but to be able to shoot the bunnies and the occasional animal that breaks a leg. The idea of putting something out of its misery with a knife certainly doesn't appeal. I have several roosters fattening for the pot, but they've been fattening for months, cos I'm too gutless to chop their heads off!!! Ahhhhrr.
Our bunny number have built up far too much this season. They make great tucker, so maybe the next skill I need under my belt is to how to use a gun safely. I am fortunate to live in a place where we lock nothing. The house is always open and the keys are always left in the vehicles. I've never been stolen from. Fearful thoughts and beliefs are great attractors to criminals. Im not sure how I'd handle the situation of starving desperate people arriving at my door. I'd probably just feed them. I have a strong vision/intention that only people of light are drawn here. I see them coming, and of me helping them with shelter and food. I hold that vision. I have done this for a few years now, and depending on the strength of the vision, it always works. Love and Light Carmen |

I keep no weapons on me or in my house. Speaking of the fourth dimension we will be in after the 2012 shift, "If you think you need a gun then one will appear instantly in your hand. If you are afraid of being shot then you will be shot. Whatever you think comes true instantly in the 4th and 5th dimensions. So there is no need for a gun." Also there is the law of "Ahimsa." A Hindu word meaning harmlessness toward any one. If you have true compassion for all living things you will not be harmed.

No firearms, but I've got a few equalizers here and there. If someone were to give me a firearm, however - I'd gladly accept it.
I don't think having a gun would necessarily attract the circumstances to use it, but rather the fear would. No place for fear in all this love. Just confidence in smooth here-and-now-ness. |

I own 4 spear guns. I also usto have a remington 870 express 12 gauge. I have hunted with it. but I don't practice it and my views have changed. I sold the gun a few years ago. I liked the sport of it. shooting clays is a lot of fun.
I just bought a marlin rifle model 60 14 shot, 22 cal with a 4x20 scope. haven't even shot it yet. I'm putting together a survival pack. just in case. Im not a gun person really. my last stand. I am a sportsman. and do some selective harvesting and hunting gathering. love wild mushrooms. and fresh watercress out of a clean stream. add a little fly fishing and a camp fire, and you have quite an evening. I think I was some kind of tribal hunter in my past lives. ![]() Last edited by dagon; 02-02-2009 at 09:06 PM. |

In Austria we have compulsory military or community service.
All male members of our family incl. me served in the army and are militia officers. So although gun laws are very strict here, we possess some weapons and have a common sense in handling them. |
