Hello Chicagoians:
I'm on the far South Side, near I-80/294 cutoff. Not far away in miles, and fewer in heart. Nancy: |

Re: Chicago, IL
Does anyone have supplies, self protection in place yet? I have plenty of botteled water and a well that is filtered biologically as well as chemically. Never leave home without a good strong axe!

Re: Chicago, IL
Hey guys, thanks for the interest
Does anyone know a safe place to be when S*** hits the fan? Wisconsin sounds good, but I've never been there so I don't know what the geography is like. Oh, and I'm in the process of buying a lot of canned food from Costco. The amount I buy will depend on if some catastrophic event does happen and to what degree it will suck |

Hello all. I live about 7 miles west of Chicago. My first thought when it comes to a safe place is Wisconsin, as well.

Re: Chicago, IL
central illinois here... i have been moving around a lot testing out the feel of different geographies... (arizona, oregon)... right now i am in a small town near bloomington/normal... my biggest concern would be good water... there is no wilderness here in the midwest, and i may decide to move on over to north carolina near some mountains... maybe missouri... depends on timely clues... i would much rather be in costa rica, but here is where i be...
nice to make first contact... i have been wanting a board like this, and toyed with creating one myself, but knew i did not have the time or resources to pull it off effectively... glad to see it actually happen... i will say, i am a bit hesitant to give out too much information in public... those who would harm would find a site like this a treasure trove of explicit information and geographic location details... anyone else concerned about that? or are we too far gone for that sort of worry? if s*** hits the fan before i move again, and i have to migrate, i will be heading south of here unless there is a nice farm land owner who already has a safehaven who would let me in, if i ever found him/her in the first place... i have skills... many skills and much motivation nice to meet ya'll Last edited by QtesUKStoke; 09-13-2008 at 01:23 PM. |

Re: Chicago, IL
Mr Lee and neighbors,
How do we go about to establishing a community or a network? Any Ideas? I am south of Chicago just moments out of the city. I don't know much about farming, or survival after a an emergency other then a blackout for a few hours. UM, I can due data entry anyone. I now, I lived in the City for over 25 yrs. I quess I should start to learn with little time. I have no way to get to South America. Where they claim it would be safe. I am staying right here and keeping a positive spin. It would be nice to know we can have a backup plan in place some way to stay in touch with other people working together and helping each other in case of a mass emergency. We need ideas, structure of a plan. Perhaps Mr. Lee since you started the thread you would like to lead us so we can start forming at least some kind of network, resources, etc. for our area. Thank You! -Morem |

Re: Chicago, IL
Sweet home, Chicago...
Hello all. I was born in Glendale Heights and lived in all kinds of areas both around and in Chicago itself. Couple years back, I moved to Florida and when I realized how STUPID that was, I moved to North Carolina. Here are some reasons this was a good idea: The Appalachian Mountains. They are the oldest in the world. They used to be as tall as Everest but Time has whittled them down and now they roll pleasantly, covered in trees and greenery. You can feel the spirits in this land. Asheville. This town is extremely focused on local, natural commerce. When the economy overall has gone to s**t, Asheville's economy has actually gotten better. I'm not gonna tell you gas is any cheaper, but I have tentative faith that the people here will not rape and pillage one another... at least not like in Chicago. I'm sorry, the city is just too big. The land. You can grow just about anything here. The season is long and mild and its not too hard at all to grow your own food. There are two organic gardens on the land where I live right now. Its too bad the owner is completely refusing to even think something bad could really happen. She's waiting to see it on the news. I know a lot of you are thinking of Wisconsin as a good alternative to the city... Think of the winters. You'll need tons of wood and thick bear skins and you know that cheese won't keep forever. We have winter here but not like Wisconsin. Bottom line, go where you feel safe. We didn't know a soul when my girlfriend and I decided to come here. If you decide to come too, at least you know me. See you soon! |

Re: Chicago, IL
Yes, I have been 'planted' here for almost 30 years. There are a couple of others that I know of that live close to me as well. It's nice to know that there are others in this general area. I just wish that there were more speaking up. In due time, I suppose...

Anyone near Quincy, IL? I am here for the next eight months or so and would love to connect with some people for support in the near-term should something life-changing occur externally.
Peace. |
