Bill C-300 Prorogued 'Away' - Canadian Mining Abuses (post others)
This is one important Bill that is now... gone, as PM Stephen Harper recently was allowed by the Governor General to prorogue Parliament.
Resource - Urgent Action: Support legislation to hold Canadian mining companies to account for abuses overseas (Dec 22 2009) The Canadian government has consistently failed to create meaningful measures to regulate the activities of Canadian mining companies operating overseas. A private member’s bill, number C-300, represents the best chance for urgently needed regulation. It is currently being reviewed by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. http://www.miningwatch.ca/en/urgent-...buses-overseas X-ref: Activist's killing angers Mexicans (Mining: Blackfire) Employees Charged http://www.projectavalon.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=18016 Curiously, not a lot of Google search engine mainstream News results are appearing for the 2009-10 prorogation period. term: 'stephen harper prorogues parliament' |

Re: Bill C-300 Prorogued 'Away' - Canadian Mining Abuses (post others)
Correction? There's this.
'Until the mid-1990s, proroguing or suspending Parliament wiped the legislative slate. All bills, no matter how many months they'd been debated or how close they'd been to passing, died on the order paper. If the government wanted to bring back a bill in the new session of Parliament, it had to start all over again from square one. But that's no longer the case. Private members' bills, such as Manitoba Tory MP Candice Hoeppner's gun registry bill, are all automatically reinstated at the same point in the legislative process where they left off.' http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...b=TopStoriesV2[/I] Bill C-300 is a private member's bill (introduced by Liberal MP John McKay on February 9, 2009). Sorry for the confusion, I'm kind of thinking out loud with this parliamentary pickle. It's unconfirmed, either way. I don't know how things work out the Bills, just yet, or the special House of Commons committee, Afghan prisoners and Red Cross/Crescent. |

The lost Bill Saga continues.....
Q. So, how is it that Dear Leader can complain about Liberals delaying his legislative agenda, then creating a situation where about half his legislation currently before the HOC will have to start over again in March? A. Jesus. What's a HOC? Also, because Dear Leader is an idiot. Proroguing wiped out all government legislation Poll shows Tory popularity damaged by the move, which some call an attempt to muzzle Parliament By Andrew Mayeda, Canwest News Service January 9, 2010 http://www.canada.com/business/Proro...869/story.html C-15 is Dead! http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/node/21547 |
