Default Web server IP database thread - (Protection against DNS failure)

hey add all the IP addresses that are relevant to you and your research that might help others when/if the DNS system is shut down.

i have been having a hard time finding IP's on a mac...
im specifically looking for prisonplanet.com, youtube.com, and other well- connected-on-the-tip-of-whats-up-websites.

here's my beginning contribution (with the help of others from another thread):

216.18.197.195 – project Camelot

72.52.163.140 – Urban survival

66.28.209.219 – Drudgereport.com

Project Avalon: 216.18.197.195
Project Camelot: 216.18.197.195
Veritas Show: 209.40.199.38
Manticore Forum: 68.142.212.71
Red Ice Creations: 195.47.247.98
Drudge Report: 74.117.114.119 or 209.234.251.93
Coast to Coast: 81.200.64.50

add your bit so we can still find out whats up when the whole pandemic thing hits here and they shut down stuff like retards and think they will succeed....

"if you came to conquer, you'll be king for a day, but you too will deteriorate and quickly fade away...yeah!" - Bad Religion

PS whoever on that thread about soeul and the death of the internet who posted those IP's THANX!!! and say your name...im totally in capture and dash research mode right now.

PPS i hope the lurkers that are paid to lurk, aggregate, and analyze data
waste countless useless taxdollars analyzing that last statement.

That's a great idea Thunderbird - y'never know.

64.27.28.180 - prisonplanet.com
74.125.45.100 - youtube.com

Doesn't a mac work for this kind of online conversion? I don't use a mac. This link converts anyway, for more net resources people may want to convert.

thanks.

from what i have researched, you have to do a command prompt in windows and run a tracer.

macs dont "do" command prompts as far as i know so i have had to do a whois database search. but some sites didt provide IP addresses.... alas.

im still tryin to find a workaround.

thanks for those!

anybody else got IPs they want to share?

I made a small change to the thread title so it doesnt look like you are collecting IP addresses indiscriminantly

Its a good idea. DNS servers do occasionally go wrong and this is a good way to have a second chance at accessing forums that seem "down"

Note though - you have to have the list stored locally because if the DNS for this site goes wrong, then you wont have access to the list.

Thanks Thunderbird! That was mighty helpful

Is that the IP address of the Project Avalon forum or the Project Avalon website? Couldn't log onto the IP address of the forum for almost 3 weeks until today. Not sure if I can log onto the site after today . . .

Again, thanks a lot!

Perhaps a quick overview on how to use these would be helpful for those of us who may not know.
Is it http://216.18.197.195/ typed in the address bar of your favorite browser? (for Project Camelot in this case)

Hi,

Although it's always a good idea to be prepared for set-backs the advantage of listing IP addresses is limited. Here's why:

When 'they' start messing with the internet it's not likely they will target the DNS services, it's far too simple and there is a more
sophisticated way to mess up without leaving traces to the root cause.

Then there is a more detailed problem concerning IP's ...
The internet currently uses IPv4 which consists of 4 bytes displayed as 4 numbers with values between 0 .. 255 separated by dots.
The problem with IPv4 is that there are far more addresses needed than combinations available. That's why IPv6 will soon replace
IPv4. IPv6 consists of 16 bytes, resulting in a lot more combinations.

The way it is handled currently is that most websites do NOT have a unique IP address. The way they share their IP with others is
that the IP will lead to the right server and the domain name used resolves the rest.
When websites have an application running in https (encrypted http) they require an unique IP for the encryption certificate.
Also when websites are that big that they run on a dedicated server (or even servers) it's likely that they will have a unique IP.

So that's why in general it may not work when you use the IP directly ...

If you still want to lookup IP addresses you can go here: http://ip-lookup.net/domain.php
Fill in only the part after http://www. till the next /
E.g. in http://www.tbrnews.org/Archives/a3005.htm lookup tbrnews.org
Sometimes somethings else is used on the place of www

Have fun ...
