Fed Vice Chairman Tells Ron Paul: "I Agree With You" on Transparency — But Don't Audit Us!

Posted by Anthony Gregory on 07/09/09 4:05 PM

VIDEO (7:21): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb6QQ...layer_embedded

Watch Ron Paul's wonderful questioning of Donald Kohn, Vice Chairman of the Fed, at this hearing. He challenges the notion of "Fed Independence" — which really means Fed secrecy and freedom from oversight — and champions the cause of free markets, including in interest rates, rather than the political, centrally planned interest rates that brought on the financial crisis. The Vice Chairman has trouble responding to a trenchant critique, claiming that the Fed has never been more transparent. This is another sign that we are winning. Never before did the Fed's advocates and defenders have to concede that transparency was crucial, and argue that they have moved toward openness. They are trying, of course, to forestall Ron Paul's and our efforts to Audit the Fed. Kohn is even warning that true transparency would lead to higher interest rates, as though this were necessarily a bad thing after years of artificually low rates have brought us to the brink of economic collapse. If that's the only thing they can threaten us with, I say, Please, oh please, don't throw us into the briar patch! One thing we do know: Now that this struggle is getting major media attention, they can no longer ignore our arguments.

MUST WATCH: The Fed Under Fire

Posted by Scott D on 07/14/09 6:41 PM

The Federal Reserve is one of the most powerful and secretive institutions in Washington, long considered beyond the reach of lawmakers. But now, as details emerge of how the Fed secretly doled out more than a trillion dollars during the financial crisis, a rare bipartisan movement in Congress demands that the Fed be held accountable.
Hear Representatives speak of Fed Audit. (Not the same video you may have seen before with the same picture, but in response to IT and OTHER recent EXPOSING videos.)

Every House Republican has now Co-sponsored HR 1207

Posted by Matt Hawes on 07/15/09 5:47 PM

This press release just out from Dr. Paul's congressional office:

Quote:
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Ron Paul (TX-14) is pleased to announce that all 178 Republican members of the House have now signed on as co-sponsors of his Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207.

This legislation calls for a full and complete audit of the Federal Reserve by the Government Accountability Office, reported to Congress by the end of 2010.

"Now more than ever, we need to know what the Fed has been doing in secret. I am pleased that all of my Republican colleagues in the House, as well as many Democrats, understand the need for this kind of transparency," stated Congressman Paul.

HR 1207 has a total of 271 co-sponsors and has been referred to the House Financial Services Committee.
Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make this happen! Now it's time to keep up the pressure on the rest of the House Democrats and our senators! Click here to visit our Audit the Fed action page.

Fed Policy Crushes the Consumer

Posted by Matt Hawes on 07/17/09 11:06 AM

On Thursday, Congressman Paul questioned Fed Governor Elizabeth Duke during a House Financial Services Subcommittee hearing on consumer protections and the Federal Reserve.

As Dr. Paul argues in this video, additional regulations will be just another tax on consumers, and until we address the underlying problem of the Federal Reserve System itself, consumers will continue to watch the value of their savings decline.

Central bank chief argues more review would compromise independence, seeking to deny legislative victory for one of Fed's biggest opponents.

WASHINGTON -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke faced a grilling in Congress on Tuesday about the role of the Fed, and spoke out strongly against a legislative proposal to audit the central bank.

Bernanke says Fed can take on supercop role

Economics Writer – Tue Jul 21, 4:59 pm ET

WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke ran into skepticism Tuesday from lawmakers wary of expanding the Fed's duties to police big financial companies. They argued that the Fed failed to spot problems that led to the financial crisis in the first place.

"The Fed has made some big mistakes," said Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee.

An Obama administration proposal to make the Fed the supercop of globally interconnected financial companies would be "just inviting a false sense of security that inevitably will be shattered at the expense of the taxpayer," Bachus warned.

Rasmussen Reports: 75% Favor Auditing The Fed
Posted by Andrew Ward on 07/30/09 07:23 AM

Yes, you read that right. An overwhelming majority of Americans are suspicious of the Federal Reserve:

Quote:
So much for the ongoing secrecy of the nation's independent central banking system. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 75% of Americans favor auditing the Federal Reserve and making the results available to the public.
Rasmussen goes on to quote Bernanke's tired line of the threat to Fed independence and Congress running monetary policy, but the article concludes this his ridiculous PR campaign is not working.

Quote:
The new survey finds that an overwhelming majority of Americans in every demographic category - including age, gender, political affiliation, race and income - disagree with Bernanke and favor auditing the Fed to make its secretive deliberations public.
Read the rest here.

Keep up the pressure on your Representative here.

Please consider printing and distributing The Gangster Government List of Shame. If your member of Congress does not support transparency of the Fed then he/she is on the List.

During the next six weeks many of the members of Congress will be holding town hall meetings. This will be a tremendous opportunity to distribute the Gangster Government List of Shame flyers to educate their supporters. Here is the list. Please feel free to use it.

Gangster Government List of Shame

The members of Congress appearing on this list do not support transparency legislation of the Federal Reserve. They advocate secrecy and do not want the public to know which countries and corporations the trillions of dollars (tax payer money), being distributed by the Federal Reserve, are going to and what that money is being used for. Trillions of dollars have been printed out of thin air by the Federal Reserve and distributed domestically and overseas to foreign governments, banks and corporations without one vote from the Congress. The members appearing on this List of Shame have abdicated their responsibility as overseers of our national treasure.

I strongly suspect that when the Fed is audited...this will involve alien disclosure. All of this stuff is interconnected. It's a house of cards. The cocaine, the banksters, missing Fort Knox gold, Obama's citizenship, the City States, the Deep Underground Military Bases, the Secret Space Program, 9/11, Oklahoma City, TWA 800, Waco, the Kennedy Assassinations, Vietnam War, New World Order, Lucifer, etc, etc, etc. It's the ultimate Pandora's Box. It's a perfect storm. The question is...how do we save the world...without destroying the world? My answer remains...get informed without getting mad or going insane...and focus on the Constitution.

I finally signed the petition...and wrote to my representatives. I'd like to meet with one of them in particular...but if I did...and spoke frankly...I would probably start noticing mysterious black Suburbans (with darkly tinted windows and 12 antennas) parked across the street from my house. I guess I'll just continue to live my life of quiet desperation...and mumble on the internet. It's easier that way.

Announcing Audit The Fed Website: http://www.auditthefed.com/

Posted by Andrew Ward on 08/13/09 8:02 PM

Folks, you've done a great job spreading the word about Audit the Fed: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/ca...hr1207home.php. We've come a long way in demonstrating to the nation that monetary policy is a critical issue, and every day more and more people are waking up to the harm that the Fed has caused our economy.

But we've still got aways to go: there are more people to educate, more signatures to collect, and more work to be done to combat the "big guns" that have come out against HR 1207. That's why we've taken the next step in our efforts by launching AuditTheFed.com, a focused, coalition website with one purpose: to pass the Audit the Fed bill. Digg the site here: http://digg.com/politics/BREAKING_Au...ed_com_Website

This website was designed to put you, the liberty-loving activist, in a position to efficiently and effectively promote Audit the Fed to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike. We hope that you find it useful in spreading the word about the central bank's secrecy.

Stay tuned for more from Campaign for Liberty.

Audit the Fed
A transpartisan coalition for greater tranparency
HR 1207 & S 604

An Open Letter to the
US House of Representatives

Whereas: Congress, the Federal Reserve, and the U.S. Treasury have put the American taxpayer on the hook for over $12 trillion in bailouts and loans; and

Whereas: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently refused to tell Congress who has received trillions in these funds from the Federal Reserve; and

Whereas: Allowing the Fed to operate our nation's monetary system in almost complete secrecy leads to abuse, inflation, and a lower quality of life for every American; and

Whereas: HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, and S 604, the Federal Reserve Sunshine Act, would require a full audit of the Fed for the first time in its history and would provide answers to the American people about how our money is being spent;

Therefore: It's time to hold the Federal Reserve accountable to Congress and the American People. I urge you to do everything in your power to pass the Audit the Fed bill!

Submit the information below to sign the petition and join the Audit the Fed coalition. Copies will be sent to your representatives in Congress:

"End The Fed" by Ron Paul

Posted by NESchloss on 08/18/09 11:25 AM

I attended the BBQ down in Galveston, TX and purchased the "End the Fed" book by Dr. Paul and must say this is a read for everyone. There are parts in the book that you will have to have some understanding of economic theory but overall it is layed out well to explain the reason to END THE FED!!!

Dr. Paul describes his upbringing and how he learned the value of money and his interest in economics. He is a brilliant man and the courage he has to bring light to this establishment can only be applauded.

Everyone and I mean everyone in America should read this book. I will be giving these out as gifts to my clients to keep them informed.

Looks like a lot of people won't be getting my vote anymore if they don't get on the audit bandwagon now. It's funny that the one representative that never votes as I would is a cosponsor of this. Guess I need to look at him more carefully.
