Ouch ! What will they think of next ? Stamp us all on the forehead for more revenue ?
At least it would be tied to actual real productivity !!! That's the irony and as such, may create "a rationale" !

So how do you like debt based fiat currency now ?

This is a lively and 'suhweet' Tax Day Tea Party in Albany New York specifically about the Fed and HR 1207

Albany, NY Tea Party, 3,000 in attendance

On April 15th, there were 700+ Tea Parties across the country. In Albany, a group of 20 unaffiliated citizens organized along with Al Rooney, WGY Radio personality, a non-partisan Tea Party event that went viral through Facebook and brought in a crowd of over 3,000 people according to police estimates. The 3 hour event focused on the Constitution, protesting the bailouts, and the expansion of government by the Republicans and Democrats.

Campaign for Liberty was there with a table and gave away over 500 Constitutions, 1,000 CFL flyers, 800 Freedom to Fascism DVDs, and collected hundreds of signatures for a petition for HR 1207, The Federal Reserve Transparency Act.

Campaign for Liberty members spoke at the Event:

Steven Vasquez, NY State CFL Coordinator

Another interesting numbers coincidence? When I reviewed this post there were 1177 views of this topic about 71 HR 1207 co-sponsors. (For anyone checking their dictionary, cosponsor can be one word or a hyphenated word; I prefer the hyphenated spelling.)

I have some tremendous news to report: as of 3:00 pm ET today, H.R. 1207 has 88 co-sponsors! That is 33 new co-sponsors this week!!

And, there are even more to come.

I have been up on Capitol Hill all week meeting with congressional staff, and the reception has been unbelievable. In additional to those who got on today, I have received several additional commitments from members to co-sponsor the bill in the coming days. And, I have five more appointments tomorrow. Between our Hill lobbying, the work of Dr. Paul’s congressional staff and the work of all of the tremendous grassroots activists in our movement, we are making progress unthinkable a few years ago.

We can win. We can pass H.R. 1207 this year, and finally audit the Federal Reserve. We still have a long way to go, and a lot of hard work to do, but if we stick together and work hard, we can do it.

I am so proud to be a part of this effort. Please keep it up, and thanks for all you do.

Take Action this Tuesday 4/28 to Audit the Fed

Posted by Matt Hawes on 04/24/09

This coming Tuesday, April 28th, C4L will be holding its second official Mass Action Day by doing a "National Petition Push" in support of HR 1207!

Cosponsors are pouring onto the bill faster than the Library of Congress' site can keep up (We're up to 91 now, but the listing won't show until early next week.), and, with Jesse's visits to over 50 Capitol Hill offices this week garnering very positive results, now is the perfect time to make our voices heard!

Our VA national office is flooded with over 40,000 of your petitions, and next week we're taking them where they belong - to congressional offices all over the Hill.

Members of C4L's national staff will be joined by volunteers from all over the DC area to deliver these petitions. If you're in the DC area and are interested in joining us on Tuesday, contact Allison Gibbs for more information.

Barney Frank discusses H.R. 1207:
The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009

April 17, 2009

Quote:
I asked Barney Frank if H.R. 1207 would die in committee - HIS committee - just like H.R. 28: a bill that HE co-sponsored in 1993, called the "Federal Reserve Accountability Act." Since the earlier bill called for an annual audit of the Fed (among other things), and since the newer bill calls ONLY for ONE audit of the Fed, it seems like there could be no way for Frank not to support this bill, and work to see it through to a vote.

Sorry for the shaky camera work!

Our Visit to Congressman Cleaver in Missouri - Audit the Fed!

Posted by Deb Wells on 04/30/09 12:30 PM

Seven Campaign for Liberty members met at Emanuel Cleaver's Kansas City district office today. He's a Democrat representing Missouri's 5th Congressional District. Campaign for Liberty Region 5 Coordinator, Ralph Munyan, was our spokesman.

Ralph had called the office to advise them that we would be there at 1:00 pm today and we met briefly in the office with the staff person, Danny, to deliver signed petitions (and mentioned, of course, that another 47,000 were being delivered in DC).

H.R. 1207 is up to 109 as of today... as of yesterday it was up to 100. This is growing quickly, but unfortunately Aaron Schock's name is STILL not on the list. I urge EVERYONE to call the Peoria and DC offices again today... let's inform them that there are now 109 co-sponsors and that we are still EXPECTING him to sign on and join the other Illinois Representatives that are supporting this bill. There is bi-partisan support so far and this has a real chance of passing.... keep up the work...we will NOT let up on this and the calls, petitions and letters to flood his office until we see some action from Aaron!

Representatives from Illinois...
Rep. Judy Biggert [R-IL]
Rep. John Shimkus [R-IL]
Rep. Timothy Johnson [R-IL]
Rep. Donald Manzullo [R-IL]

Call Aaron TODAY!!!

Make sure to say you are with the Campaign for Liberty and that we are watching closely to see if he signs on.

Let me know if you get any feedback!

Default Re: HR 1207 INTRODUCED "The Federal Reserve Transparency Act"

Email from Ron Paul Campaign today.

Dear Friends,

As we reflect on President Obama's first 100 days in office, the hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer bailouts of Wall Street and the just passed budget, a staggering $3.4 trillion boondoggle, I wanted to share some good news with you.

As I write, H.R. 1207, my bill to audit the Federal Reserve, currently has 110 cosponsors in the House of Representatives. This piece of legislation is perhaps the most important of my career, and I thank you for your continued support in sending me back to Congress to fight for it.

A broad coalition of Representatives has joined with me in supporting your right to transparency at the Fed. For example, Rep. Tom Price (GA), head of the conservative Republican Study Committee, and Rep. Lynn Woolsey (CA), former head of the liberal Progressive Caucus, have both cosponsored the bill. Americans from all over the political spectrum are demanding an audit of the Federal Reserve. And with good reason!

Since its inception, the Federal Reserve has operated without sufficient transparency or accountability to the American people. In fact, current law specifically excludes the Fed from audit or real congressional oversight. No government agency has such an utter lack of sunshine.

The Federal Reserve has created and dispersed trillions of dollars in response to our current financial crisis. Of course, I am among the most outspoken critics of the bailouts, but Americans across the nation, regardless of their opinion of the TARP program, want to know where that money has gone and exactly how much has been spent.

H.R. 1207 will open up the Fed's funding facilities, such as the Primary Dealer Credit Facility, Term Securities Lending Facility, and Term Asset-Backed Securities Lending Facility to Congressional oversight.

Additionally, audits could include discount window operations, open market operations, and agreements with foreign central banks, such as the ongoing dollar swap operations with European central banks.

By opening all Fed operations to a GAO audit and calling for such an audit to be completed by the end of 2010, the H.R. 1207 would achieve much-needed transparency of the Federal Reserve.

Times are tough, and we continue to hear a stream of bad news. But I will continue to stand up for you in Congress and fight for our American traditions, to protect our Liberty and for an Audit of the Federal Reserve.

Thank you again for your support. I could not continue my fight without you.

In Liberty,

Ron Paul

Dear Friend of Liberty,

With each passing day, Ron Paul is winning people over to the cause of Federal Reserve transparency and sound money.

More and more Congressmen have been signing onto Dr. Paul’s Audit the Fed bill, HR 1207, and it is now up to a whopping 124 cosponsors.

That co-sponsor list now includes over half of the House Republican Caucus. Dr. Paul is truly leading the GOP back to its roots of sound money and fiscal conservatism.

In fact, The Washington Independent’s David Weigel just wrote an important article about how Ron Paul’s message is resonating with Republican lawmakers. All I can say is, "It's about time!"

Click here to read the article -- “Ron Paul's Economic Theories Winning GOP Converts”: http://washingtonindependent.com/417...g-gop-converts

And today, Dr. Paul proved the case for Federal Reserve transparency to people across America by grilling Ben Bernanke on national television. (See video above.)

Chairman Ben is running scared now that HR 1207 is gaining steam. He even tried to appease Dr. Paul by offering transparency on everything except monetary policy -- the Fed's sole function!

It is clear we are winning this fight, and I believe that ultimately we will see it through to victory. But this is no time to rest on our laurels.

Keep writing and calling your congressman if he has not already co-sponsored HR 1207 (click here to find out): http://www.campaignforliberty.com/ca...porthr1207.php
Circulate more petitions and Audit the Fed literature to your friends and neighbors to recruit them to this winning effort.

Thank you for all you have done and all you will do. With your continued support, Ron Paul and Campaign for Liberty will return the GOP to its conservative roots, and America back to its founding principles.

In Liberty,

John Tate
President, Campaign for Liberty

Why We Need HR 1207

Posted by Matt Hawes on 05/07/09 10:13 AM

The Federal Reserve Inspector General was recently unable to tell Rep. Alan Grayson what goes on at the Federal Reserve.

Thanks to your support, HR 1207, which would require an Audit of the Fed, is now up to 134 cosponsors!

On page A5 of today's Washington Times, C4L is running a full page coalition letter with a list of over 60 other organizations that have joined our call for transparency and accountability at the Federal Reserve.

Continues with excerpts of interview:

Has anyone taken a close look at Nazi Germany's attempt to operate a currency independent of the international banksters? If the Fed is audited...this may open a Pandora's Box which will turn everything upside down. This thing may get very ugly...but it needs to happen. End the Fed! Go Ron Paul! Rewatch 'The Money Masters"! Go peaceandlove!

I heard both Bernanke and Warren Buffett commenting favorably on the economy yesterday.

John Barrow (GA-12) first Democrat from GA to co-sponsor HR1207!

Posted by Mitch Anderson on 05/12/09 3:21 PM

Here is the email that's been going around to everyone in the district that's been in contact with John Barrow, as he's now supporting HR1207! I want to send a shout out to everyone in the district who's been part of the petition drive, been in contact with John Barrow's offices here in Georgia (especially county coordinators Casey Tucker, Robert McGee, Kathy Pate, Bill Bennett, and Peter Zink), and his office in DC. Without your efforts, this would not be possible. Thanks also to Jesse Benton and everyone at C4L HQ who did the petition drops in DC!

This is John Barrow. Thanks for your e-mail in support of H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. I've always supported transparency and accountability in government, and that's why I'm proud to cosponsor H.R. 1207, which will allow for more audits of the Federal Reserve and will direct the Comptroller General to conduct an audit of the Federal Reserve and report its findings to Congress next year. The bill will also allow Members of Congress and the public to be better informed about the work the Federal Reserve does and will help us to see any problems that need to be addressed. If you have any further questions please contact my Legislative Correspondent, Chris Baggett. Feel free to call him at 1-202-225-2823, anytime between 9 in the morning and 6 in the evening. We hope to talk with you soon.

Thanks again-

--John

As I was updating the thread to 156 another post came in updating it to 162, so there are two links below referencing the additions. I have added the additional names to the list below.

H.R.1207 Up to 162 Co-Sponsors

Posted by DougWalters on 05/13/09 08:30 AM

If we keep this pace up we'll hit 218 in about two weeks!

Rep Royce, Edward R. [CA-40] - 5/12/2009
Rep Fortenberry, Jeff [NE-1] - 5/12/2009
Rep Mack, Connie [FL-14] - 5/12/2009
Rep Barrow, John [GA-12] - 5/12/2009
Rep Mica, John L. [FL-7] - 5/12/2009
Rep Maffei, Daniel B. [NY-25] - 5/12/2009
Rep Inslee, Jay [WA-1] - 5/12/2009
Rep Rogers, Mike D. [AL-3] - 5/13/2009
Rep Minnick, Walter [ID-1] - 5/13/2009
Rep Boustany, Charles W., Jr. [LA-7] - 5/13/2009
Rep Turner, Michael R. [OH-3] - 5/13/2009
Rep Hunter, Duncan D. [CA-52] - 5/13/2009
Rep Perriello, Thomas S.P. [VA-5] - 5/13/2009

If you are represented by any of these good folks, send them a big THANK YOU for their support of this bill!

Edward Royce (CA-40) is a Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, and Daniel Maffei (NY-25) is a Democrat on the Committee.

TOTALS:

133 Republicans (74.72%) - 26 out of 29 committee members

23 Democrats (8.98%) - 3 out of 42 committee members

I find it amazing that we are so close to a number of significant marks - with 156 co-sponsors we are only 62 co-sponsors away from our goal of 218. We are also a mere three Democratic co-sponsors away from having gained the support of 10% of the Democrats in the House. I think that if we can hit 10% (which shouldn't be that hard) it will ensure that this bill is viewed as a completely bipartisan effort to bring about true reform, something we haven't seen in a long time. We are also one Republican co-sponsor away from having support from 75% of the Republicans in the House.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Statement Introducing Legislation to Help Consumers with Forgiven Credit Card Debt

May 14, 2009

Madame Speaker, I rise to introduce legislation to help Americans struggling with consumer debt by excluding discharges of debt from the definition of taxable income. Currently, when someone is relived of consumer debt, such as credit card debt, they are taxed on the forgiven debt. So, for example, if a credit card company agrees to forgive $12,000 of a $15,000 debt, the debtor’s taxable income increases by $12,000---even though the debtor does not actually have an additional $12,000 in his or her bank account.

The only way for Americans to avoid turning cancelation of debt into a taxable event is by declaring bankruptcy or insolvency. Thus, the tax code’s perverse incentives could cause more Americans to declare bankruptcy, which is neither in the best interest of the debtor or their creditors.

Madam Speaker, the tax code should not punish Americans who work out a settlement with their creditors that enables them to avoid bankruptcy. This is unfair to both the debtors and their creditors. I therefore encourage my colleagues to cosponsor my legislation removing discharged debt from the definition of taxable income.
