Lots of activity lately
Hi all
Portland and portland harbour was once home to the services and Naval ships up until 1999. Now I have lately seen an increase in overall activity around the island and in the skies. Yesterday I saw many small fast jets and even a AW101 transport helicopter, never seen this one before. We have had what sounds like chinooks flying around quite low in the early hours. On the outskirts of the harbour are some menacing looking ships, all 3 where moored by the main breakwater entrance. Millatary prescence has also increased on land too, is the UK gearing up for something or maybe this is just a pit stop for them? |

Re: Lots of activity lately
Hi Swanny
Just strange that whenever there is a conflict or risk of something happening, every thing escalates down here with millatary. It does seem strange that the cadette training center has been very quiet. |

Re: Lots of activity lately
Here in Minnesota too I have been noticing them late at night and into the early hours. My husband said they looked like old army planes and he just couldn't figure out why they were flying so low.
We live my a very small airport that they tried to expand and the voters here said NO WAY but I think they did it anyhow. Many more jets seem to be coming and going from there. Plus its only a hop skip and a jump from a training facility for the National Guard. It has picked up in the last week. I lay in bed thinking to myself, how the people in Iraq and Afghanistan feel when they hear the same sounds. It drives me nuts. So far my attitute has still been positive and it only makes me pray harder. I refuse to give them my fear and anger |

Re: Lots of activity lately
I've always wondered if UFO's would disguise themselves as planes... wouldn't that be an easier thing to do in order to not draw any attention, especially around military areas.
I guess that would make a UFO appear in plane sight!!! |

Re: Lots of activity lately
Portland in England there is a very big naval base there
Your Portland would have been named after this just like a lot of other places in America are named after places in UK |

Re: Lots of activity lately
My friend said that helicopters have been more frequent around her apt. We both live near a national guard training site so that could be the case.
But then, the Guard has been deploying to Afghanistan a lot lately as well so it's probably that? |

Re: Lots of activity lately
Saw two of these over Lake Lemon near Bloomington Indiana yesterday (Sunday Sept 27). They flew low behind a ridge near the lake then circled back and crossed over the lake. Noisy beasts. They were painted the same color of green as National Guard helicopters. New equipment for the local guard unit?

Re: Lots of activity lately
I've noticed more activity in air traffic over my house lately (Norway), with some planes I can't make much sense from.
If I say I hear planes that sounds both like a propellerengine AND a jet engine at the same time, what would your response be? Can't say I ever heard those types of planes before, heard the first one last winter. Sadly I've never seen any of them, mostly occur on cloudy days. |

Re: Lots of activity lately
I've seen two ufos recently. They were both white lights, similar to a meteor but were way to low to be meteors or satelites, had no tails, and were way to fast to be our stuff.
I'm wondering if the increased air traffic is due to them or they are intent on showing themselves more often. It could all be related to the brewing war. Many sightings have been reported by our troops in Iraq. "They" obviously are interested in whats happening, which is probably a good thing. |
