Question What are you really required to reveal to the US Census takers?

Floridians warned about a fake 2010 Census e-mail

By Karen Voyles
Staff writer

Published: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 8:13 a.m.

The Better Business Bureau of Northeast Florida is warning Floridians that an e-mail falsely claiming to be from the organization is spreading inaccurate information about the 2010 Census.

The e-mail urges residents to be cautious about telling census workers anything other than how many people live at their address.

Bureau and census officials said residents can get accurate information abut the upcoming 2010 census by going to www.census.gov/2010census, including how to determine whether someone is really working for the census. For example, census representatives will be wearing ID badges from the Department of Commerce, will be able to provide contact information for their supervisor and will have with them a letter from the Census Bureau Director on official 2010 Census letterhead.

Census officials said that between April and July, their representatives will be going door-to-door to get information from every household that does not mail back the completed 10-question census form.

FROM DAILY PAUL FORUM

Census- what's required?

Submitted by RS on Mon, 04/20/2009 - 16:22
in Daily Paul Liberty Forum

Now's a good time to solve these questions concerning the census.
If you know for a fact and can provide proof of your answers in U.S. law, let us all know.

1. Are we required to answer the census questions?

2. What is the only information we are required to provide?

3. What penalties will you incur if you don't answer the questions?

4. Is there an "UNDER PENALTY OF PERJURY" clause on the census form?

5. How many pages are contained in the census form?

6. Who must fill out the form?

Response at forum:

I was a census worker in the 2000 census

Submitted by hopefulfilled on Mon, 04/20/2009 - 17:38.
and I have no proof of anything, just what they told me then. I don't know if it is the same this year, but I don't remember any new laws about it so I assume so.

1. Yes, you are required to reply to the census. BUT you can refuse to answer any more than your name and number in your household.(this answers number two also)

3. none

4. no

5.I havn't seen the census this year, but here is a version of it. I think this is from 2003, and I don't know if it has changed or not. http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Downloads/SQuest03.pdf

6. I believe every head of household.

Now, remember that these census workers are just that: workers doing a job, and their job is to fill out the census for each person. So, if you answer just your name and then number of people, and then refuse EACH other question, they write/punch in Refused. Then, the census is all filled in and their job is done. If they don't fill it out, their supervisor will send someone else, etc. and if they can't get you to do it, they will go to your neighbors and get as many of the questions filled in as they can. So, don't be afraid to stand there and answer "refuse" to all the questions.

I'd like to see what legal statute they use to mandate a reply. Must we also let them inside so they can perform a safety check to protect us?

Also, by whose authority can they fine people up to $100 for not responding?

actually, in our case, it was benefical
since, a former tenant, in our basement apartment
had NOT filed his taxes in decades
and, had NOT submitted money
-when he acted as the eXecutor
on his fathers estate
(and, didn't submit that money)
so, when the tax collectors,
came to the door for him,
they tried to ascertain,
if he/and, i, were actually common law,
and, NOT landlord/and, tenant
the cencus-ironically had recorded information,
that showed, that was NOT the case,
so, instead of chasing us, for the money he owed
and/or, registering 'his debt' against our house
the census proved, that he was simply a tenant,
so, the census, in our opinion, does hold a lot of value,
also, when people are searching their family trees, etc.,
you can discover a lot of information,
from census records.

also, when we called the tax department
to tell them, that letters for him,
kept coming here,
and, that bill collectors,
kept coming here,
they would NOT take him,
off the address,
unless we took his mail,
and, wrote on it,
NO LONGER HERE ~ LEFT NO FORWARDING ADDRESS
which, we did,
and, NOW, no more mail/or bill collectors
come calling for him

we were grateful, that we were able to utlise a census for proof
of NON involvement, with this person, and,
they went after him, utilsing other courses,
of action

Sometimes I answer my own questions:

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/13/221.html

They didn't mention anything about willfully neglecting to open the door when a census employee knocks at said person's residence.

I have never filled one out. They sent someone to our door too and my husband shuts the door on their face. Its nobodies business what race you are, who lives with you and what you make.

his little $30,000.00 tax bill, from his dad's estate

is NOW, almost $90,000.00
(the interest due, is calculated daily/and, compounded)

as for his income taxes,
he was a low earner, and, likely could have gotten money back
and, now, he misses out, on that

one of our old postman;
was 13 years behind on filing;
and; he could have gotten all this taxes back;
(as, they really raped his check for taxes)
he was developing a home based business;
and; everything they took at source,
he could have offset alot of it - by, just filing records

here, we can buy/and, sell a home,
about once every year, and, pay no capital gains

ahh...paperwork, and, taxes - both suck!!!

one of our friends, just used the census,
to find out who her mum was,
and, located brothers/and, sisters,
after her mum passed away
found out, she came from a family
of 6 brothers/and, 6 sisters
and, she has lots of lots of cousins, etc.,

also- you can discover interesting things
about FDR, and, who lived in the house/and, funeral home
(and, why he was in a closed casket)
hard to hide a bullet hole to the head

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I just received a letter today from the Census Bureau stating my form will arrive in a few days.

Quote:
Your response is important. Results from the 2010 Census will be used to help each community get its fair share of government funds for highways, schools, health facilities, and many other programs you and your neighbors need. Without a complete, accurate census, your community may not receive its fair share.
WHAT FUNDS???

The Census Is Getting Personal

Many people have requested the list below:

QUESTIONS THAT THE CENSUS BUREAU REFUSED OR FAILED TO ANSWER (from Jerry
Day's Matrix News Network segment: "The Census Is Getting Personal"):

1) The Constitution authorizes government to count people but it does not authorize the taking of private information or even the names of individuals. From where does the Census Bureau derive authority to demand our private information? (more info at youtube link)

We received our census today. It is a short to the point format. Nothing new that I can see. It has 10 questions, and 5 are about person 1, the rest are about other household members. There are no questions about how many guns you have or anything like that. That was all hype, as usual. Nothing about the flu vac, etc...

Another Census Absurdity

Posted by Anthony Gregory on 03/15/10 6:50 PM

We often hear the reason we need the census, especially in its invasive modern form, is to figure out how best to spend government money for necessary social infrastructure. But the census bureau itself, a relatively modest institution for a federal agency, has gone significantly over budget. "Auditors also found the Census Bureau provided training to some 15,000 workers who either worked not at all or less than a single day -- at a total cost of $5.5 million." This is peanuts compared to the stimulus-bailout-corporatist-warfare state we now live under, and yet to tout the census as necessary to determine reasonable uses of tax dollars strikes me as absurd, or at least quite ironic. After all, if we want to consider more reasonable uses of tax dollars, why not just cut from those areas that most obviously do little to help average Americans—overseas militarism and foreign aid, Wall Street and corporate subsidies and the like? Every government program is advertised as necessary for fiscal responsibility, no matter how much it costs.
