Iraq oil fields: European, Asian firms win first contracts
This is why 1m (or so) people are dead IMO. Saddam Hussein nationalized the resources in the 1970s. The embargo was also pretty bad, no medicine and a lot of infrastructure (like water systems) damaged after the '91 Gulf War. Now, these contracts will help the country 'recover'.
Makes me wonder. Iraq oil fields: European, Asian firms win first contracts The development of two huge Iraq oil fields will significantly increase production and help the country recover from war. By Jane Arraf Correspondent / December 11, 2009 Baghdad Iraq on Friday auctioned the rights to develop some of the world’s biggest remaining oil fields. Iraqi officials say the move will dramatically increase production over the next seven years, fueling reconstruction. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middl...irst-contracts |

I agree, it's unsurprising, but I posted this also as a kind of process started on a different thread http://projectavalon.net/forum/showt...ght=complicity So, they're kind of connected re environmental effects of DU munitions in Iraq. I was responding to Rhotel1 there about it.
