Default Re: The ego what is it? How to transcend?

That is a great story mudra, and this is a great thread greybeard, thanx.
The ego is the cause of all our problems, i have been trying to live without mine for a while now, but it doesn't stop me clashing with others for speaking my truth.

Last night in the pub two guys were having a conversation with the barman who was flicking through the daily Mirror or some other nonsense when the talk turned to 911, via x-ray machines and terror scares from the msm rag. One guy said 911 was an inside job and asked me to back him up when the other guy doubted him. i told him about how building 7 fell behind the shoulder of the bbc reporter 20 minutes after she had reported its collapse. I told them how the retired head of Homeland security was hawking body scanners around europe because he owned the company which made them, and how a cia operative had been involved in the mumbai shootings.

The barman accused me of being a conspiracy nut and called last orders, I could see he was annoyed, he had been trying to direct the conversation with the boys, when it was taken to a place outside his comfort zone. The boys then began to ask me questions on all sorts of subjects such as ufos, nibiru, etc. I told them to go and find their own truth, that i didn't have all the answers.

Another friend of mine came in and we had a drink and our own bit of craic, he was depressed, a mutual friend had recently committed suicide, he had just witnessed a fight, and he himself was in terrible pain in his legs, caused by alcohol, but thats another story. He had a whiskey and went home with 6 cans to see him through the night.

The barman doesn't like me because of my unconventional lifestyle, and muttered a comment about the guy who had just left and his drink problem. I told him not to be so uncharitable, the other two guys said he was just a grumpy old man. I agreed that he was indeed grumpy and he exploded with a stream of venom, about the guy who had just left and a few comments about me, I just sat and smiled at him, we were learning a lesson.

Couple of posts above are pasted from either Beren's thread on Avalon 2

Indeed my dear friend Chris. I was just lurking around a bit and stumbled over your post.
Just wanted to clarify that my intention was not to start my own forum, but was an honest Love inspired offer to help the ones that call themselves "The Mists".

Things happen for a reason, and if you live in the moment you experience great things that wont happen if "you think" too much with your mind.
That said "I" invite all the readers of this thread and their friends, to BE a part of a spiritual community (not mine), as an alternative not replacement aside of PA. It's new in its infantile state, but growing step by step...

I apologize for my boldness.

and I bring you the good news
there is no ego as en entity that exists on its own
the Ego is just a concept, an idea, a thoughtform, a point of view
and like all other points of view
it comes and it goes - like clouds in the sky
and so we always have the choice of hanging on to the points of view that comes by
or let them go and rather stay in the nature of what we are - Awareness
relaxing and resting as Awareness

Thanks Mahalo.
This is true.
There are a lot of posts in the thread saying much the same from different points of view.
I re-read the whole thing from page one from time to time, so much good positive information.

Quote:
The ego-self is made up of all the tattvas of Nature, and constitutes the whole mind and body complex. It is visible and tangible and can be recognized based on its distinct form and attributes. It is a layer of impurities or a veil formed around the Soul like soot on the glass of a lamp. It envelops the Soul and prevents it from shining through. It extends itself into the world through the mind and the senses. Its consciousness is filled with desires, instincts, emotions, thoughts, impressions, memories and such mental formations which give rise to afflictions (vrittis) in our mind-body aural field (citta). Some aspects of its consciousness become latent impressions (samskaras) and accompany the soul to the next birth. According to Hindu scriptures, the ego-self is subject to the five limitations of space, time, knowledge, power and happiness. In other words, it is characterized by limited space, limited life, limited knowledge, limited power and limited happiness.

to make something illusory into some-thing tangible is a futile affair . . . .

ego could be defined as whatever covers up basic goodness ...
from an experiential point of view ...
what is ego covering up?

it's covering up our experience of just being here ...
just fully being where we are ...
so that we can relate with the immediacy ...
of our experience ...

Thanks futureyes.
Yes every word carries baggage a history.
It is almost impossible to see anything fresh and new as it really is.
The ego needs past to exist.

When I did therapy I would ask some clients what the word dog meant to them.
Just one word---dog.
To some it brought up a strong fear reaction.
Others love. followed by Rover stories.
and a few were indifferent,
So you can see the difficulty in communicating with the other.
There is a quote. "Hell is the other"
So often we are sure we are expressing clearly only to find our intention etc is being mis-understood.
In order to have a clear understanding of the content of a communication, the context must be clear, that is what gives meaning to content.
The ego loves to miss-understand and be quarrelsome.
In relationships a common ego statement is.
"But you promised." normal implying. You promised to make me happy and you dident.
or "You said."
Eckhart Tolle wrote in "The Power of Now"
"Relationships are not there to make you happy at this time but to dissolve your ego. You will learn more from three failed relationships than three years spent on a dessert Island" The context being that you are looking for spiritual growth.

Smile Re: The ego what is it? How to transcend?

you make me smile chris ...
your words always have ...
see

to not be mis-understood ...
is to take responsibility ... and ownership ...
of the words we communicate to others ...
BEfore ... they are spoken ... or written ...

as they say ... think before you speak ...

it is a process isn't it ...
to realize ... how precious our communication really is ...

what we convey ... extends ... and ripples ...
beyond ... the receiver ...

the ego ... would rather ... we not utilize our words wisely ...
this i feel ... is happening much too fluently ...
within our world ...

it is a process ... for certain ...

egolessness ... is a state of mind ...
which has complete confidence ...
in the sacredness of this world ...

it is unconditional well being ...
unconditional joy ...
that of which includes all the different qualities ...
of our experiences ...

I AM ...
still smiling ...

let there be less ego ... less fear ...
and greater joy ... and love ...
for all ...

afterall ... LOVE IS ...
beyond ego ...

IM SMILING TOO ---BIG TIME.

Thanks futureyes.
I will really miss posting here.
So many though provoking responses.
Far better than provoking ones
Not that there were any of those.
Even a small start on transcending the ego can bring much peace.
One good way is to refrain from labeling.
If you do you are not really seeing anything other than a category.
For example if your are looking at a bird refrain from any mental comment.
The mind wants to pigeon--hole it smiling.
While the mind is processing thought it is not 100% aware of the bird at all.
Spiritually speaking you are unconscious you have lost the presence of one of Gods beautiful creatures. If you really look you will be dumb struck at the perfection of the moment.

Phew,

So....in the end what one transcends....
is the illusion that there is something to transcend.

Much wisdom here, thanks to all.

Peace

ps- Regarding words, I always liked the 'Sutra of the Perfection of Wisdom
in One Letter', ('A' - Sanskrit = 'no' or 'not').
Now...those guys have got a sense of humour,
and alot of spare time.

Indeed Zenith
The key stuck for a moment?????????
Just like that.

I laugh because the thread is by the ego suggesting and asking egos for ways to speed up its demise.
Only it doesn't know that.
It thinks its going to be an enlightened ego.
I haven't the heart to tell it otherwise.
Im quite fond of christopher and the things he gets up to but I must surrender that fondness to the greater Love of God.

As to where we are aI can only answer or my self.
Im home ward bound.
Anyone know a short cut?
Think I tried them all over many life times.

Love love and then see what happens.
