Cool Re: What does 'PTB' stand for?

Maybe we can use this thread to reveal the meaning of other abbreviations, words?

PTB = Power That Be
TPTB = The Power That Be
RPTB = Real Power That Be
PTW = Power That Were

IMO = In My Opinion (took a while before I got this one)

re = regarding, or relating to (thanks 100thmonkey)

BET = ???

...damn right... we might have to put up with 42 months of evil at worst case senario but the powers that be will definitely be the powers that were, as all the ancient book and prophecies say.

Boy did that ring a loud bell in my mind. Many, many years ago when I was a smartass, I was with some mates having a jam session. Come lunchtime, one of the girts asked us what we'd like on our sandwiches. I tried to think of the most unlikely mixture I could and came up with - Peanut butter, Tomato and Banana. I thought no more about it but half an hour later when we were presented with our sarnies, I commented how nice mine was and asked what was in it.

Talk about being looked at sideways, I was informed that it contained exactly what I'd asked for. You know what? It tasted so good, I still enjoy that mix to this day.

A friend of mine eats peanut butter, banana, and swiss sandwiches. No joke. He's from jersey though. I'll tell ya it's not bad.

P.B.S. Think about it.

Here in Australia, PBS = Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. A government funded prescription medicine subsidy scheme. Alphabet soup has different flavours in different countries.
