I remember this as a kid. I was 15 at the time. I thought it was a cool funky intro to a new sci fi drama. My dad said someone had tapped into the transmitter.

I can say for sure that no one tuck it at all serious. It did make the news but was put down to a hoax. I think I'm inclined to agree.
