Hi I live on the 5th floor of a streetside appartment with essentially knife edge window sills and a cat just walked in my window, there is only one place she could have come from which is the building next door. The lights are on but no is home.
I think she is having kittens, she is looking desperately for somewhere to clawl into or under. I have thrown everything possible at the neighbours windows and put the cat back out on the ledge but she wont go. If she is going to have kittens in my house, what should I do? There is no way of me getting into the next house without a code for the door and its 1.30 am here in Paris help, wiil she be ok, I am mental and have built a kind of house out of pillows etc... AHHHHH |

Harper, please don't worry too much, animals know what they need to do. You just need to be a witness of the event if she allows you to do so. Have a towel or something soft where she can rest her body and she will do all the work by herself, perhaps next day you can get a cardboard box or something similar to make some class of enclosure for the babies.
Also, in a few days she will take her babies to her home one by one. I do hope you like cats and this is not disturbing for you. Good look and if possible look after the mother!!! |

thank you so much for responding, I love cats and only dont have one because of where I live, uo in the sky in a small appartment.
Ok thanks, this is like some 911 call by a child, if it wa sin the countryside where I live I could handle it, but she is going wild inside a tiny appartment. sorry |

If she is to have kittens, she would appreciate a carton or basket with a towell on bottom. This would be best put in a closet, or perhaps in the bathroom with lights low.
Good luck. Bushycat |

a mother cat, know eXactly how to have kittens
![]() it's quite a natural process, for them once, they start birthing them, you likely, can't move her, or, she'll get real mad at you, so, maybe, get an old blanket/or towel (baby kittens, look pretty wet, when born) and, she will clean up; all the messes, that are created, so, don't get upset, if it appears, she is eating 'after-birth' etc., apparently, they do that ~perhaps; a good box ? or, something to place her in |

That's so beautiful, so kind of you, please don't throw her out and away...they are quite self-sufficient, she knows how to care of herself and babies , don't worry, follow your instincts .
A safe box in quiet corner or under the table even would do with some clean towels you can miss . Bowl of water and watch for her . You can always move them later if they don't belong to you or call to vet for advice . Tomorrow is a day, it may not come immediately , hope the cat is not ill. What kind of cat is it ? If it's kittens you'll be delighted and see how thankful she will be to you . Please keep us updated . Documentary picture would do ![]() A |

I just read article to refresh memory: suggests several newspapers in the box for her which can be removed carefully as each one becomes soiled. Later can put mother and kittens on clean towell in same box. But I like idea of not disturbing her because of her not being familiar with you. She may not necessarily settle where you want her too. She may be determined to select her place for this event.
You could have box with shredded newspaper or paper towells available for her also in case she needs to relieve herself. BC |

Thank you all, after an hour an a half, I decided to shout from the windows and a frantic and now delighted couple have their kitty back and they will have the kittens in the morning.
Honestly if you could imagine it is unlikely for that to happen and how more unlikely it is to shout at the correct people in the middle of a big city and have them hear and find you. Oh kitty, reminded me of life |

Oh, great, Harper. That was the best outcome for all. I guess what she needed you for was to help her get back in to her home. Good job.
Good night. You'll be counting kitties instead of sheep? ![]() BC |

They usually don't want food at such a time. Don't be surprised if she pays a call on you another time to accept your gourmet offerings !!! I am sure she will remember you fondly. What colour is she? Trying to picture her...

if she is still in the birthing process - she might want a small bowl of milk to replenish her strength... just be sure to go in slowly, and scoot it next to her head (from a distance- so she doesn't get nervous), and talk soothingly to her- she obviously picked your place because of the good (safe) vibes...

I wish I would've have seen your thread earlier. Here's an old b&w silent film from 1944 about a couple of cats rearing kittens.
http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/pri...e_of_a_cat.php "A male cat courts a female cat and they raise a family together. We see the kittens being born and nurtured by mother, while an interested and proud dad lends his support. Beautifully photographed and executed. With subtitles, no dialog, and a refreshing absence of human beings onscreen. Very touchingly realized by Alexander Hammid, whose collaborations with Maya Deren I had prior acquaintance with, and also highly recommend." -imdb.com |

Good luck comes to mind, it should be a wonderful experience. Just don’t touch the newborns; mother cats sometimes kill the kittens when they smell something on them other than her scent.
This topic just reminded me of a bizarre experience I had about 2 years ago. I live in a 3 floor brown stone and one night I found a black cat sitting on the top steps of the second floor. All of the windows were closed and doors were locked, I still don’t know how it got there. It was very friendly and didn’t have any fear of rubbing against my leg. After petting and talking to it for a while I put it in the back yard and never saw it again. There are other cats I recognize but never the same black cat. Some say black cats bring good luck some say bad, but I don’t think my life has change much from the experience…if so than it was for the better. Rarely do I find myself in a bad situation. Hmmm, where in the heeezy did this cat come from? Peace |
