Lightbulb Would PA members accept Responsible Advertising?

I'm not sure if this is even possible, but it seems like this would solve the paid subscription issue that has been worrying some.

Nothing like Google Ads but,

Bill and Kerry must have some connections to small businesses in need of exposure.

Maybe something like efoods direct?

Sound off.

I say YES.

Why? because a subcription cost could actually stop people coming forward and saying 'here this is what i experienced'.

Why do it for some one who makes you pay to tell your truth?

adverts? well, as long as it was done with respect to the members and the integrity of their PC's ie no malware or adware planters and vetted links to make sure the companies were genuine, why not?.

However, the very second they interupt my viewing or sound an alert on my firewall or anti phishing screen, I am off.

Plus with the extra cash from advertising they could further support their ground crew and other great projects they do to help so many others

Given what Bill had to say about Advertising, it is highly unlikely that this would happen.

Please "read" what Bill posted as many forum areas will remain open and only a select few areas in Avalon will be subscription.

I have "read" what Bill posted about certain "drill down" parts of PA, but

this is fairly vague (only paying for research? free forum membership?) and as such has caused a bit of unrest in a few threads.

People vowing to leave and so on.

I have never registered in a forum before, but I registered here because there seems a real possibility of growth and increased awareness.

I'm not sure that I would have done so if there was a fee.
I probably would now if it was reasonable.

I'm only saying that this action (responsible advertising)
could serve two worthy causes:

1. Keep the PA community free and growing

2. Increase exposure of responsible small businesses

Disclaimer:
I am annoyed as much as anyone by invasive internet advertising,
but there are responsible ways to operate ads, as well as worthy
businesses.

Not sure how we'd define "responsible" adverts, but I'd go along with it. I also thought that they might approach it like public TV, and just regularly ask for donations. There are months I could send in a few bucks and I'd be glad to do so. But a paid subscription at ANY level seems wrong to me.

So: Good Thread! Thank you for seeking input and opinions on this! Let's find a positive solution to pay for this site.

Do any of US have small businesses we'd like to pay for an ad for? I sure would if my soapmaking business takes off, and I'm currently hooking up with a couple partners who seem to really want to make it happen. I don't really see selling soap here, but some others may have services that would fit right in.

Hi,

I thik most people would appriciate responsable advertising that come from companies serving the large good.

If this has something to do with subscription, then I would prefer the advertising. I am broke at the mo so would be nice.

Norval My friend.
The advertising would only effect those who are open what is being advertised. I would rather see people get advertising from concious companies than them being exposed to mindless advertising.
The money factor I am sure would disappear once the rest of the world goes that way. In the mean time people will have to work in the frames given to society. May not be what the companies want solely??? to get rich that is.

But understand where you are coming from. But at the mo not really fuctionable.

We will get there soon.

I'm not big on advertising. In fact I'm fairly sick of crap covered with flashing lights intruding into my field of view all the time, and I haven't been able to watch TV for over a year for that reason. It's obnoxious.

But I at least "check in" at Rense and Infowars every day to catch links to articles that I want to read. The ads are there to be noticed, but don't jump in and overlay what you're trying to read, or install cookies and pop ups. And if I see one that actually interests me, I'll click on it and check it out.

So it could be done discreetly, but it would still have to get a no vote from me. It opens too many doors, like perceived affiliations that don't exist, etc.

As to subscriptions, I've seen a two tier system work well in many instances, where the majority of the content is free and freely accessible to all, while certain content is available to those who've supported financially or through bartering, like taking on research or moderation duties, etc.

And lets not forget that there is a very simple third option which would render the advertising and subscription options moot, and that's donation. There are a lot of us here. If those who can afford it, and have received value simple donate what they feel would exchange adequately with what they've received, Bill and Kerry would likely have the wherewithal to permit leaving things as they are now.

That would be my suggestion.

I'm sure that it either has already, or will soon happen, that someone with lots of resources, will look in on the Avalon forum and get a heads up that will permit them to save a fortune with quick action. We're on the cutting edge of awareness of what's going on in the world, our attention tuned and focused. Someone who just saved a small fortune by reason of tuning in here, might show appreciation by donating to the project.

There's also the possibility that someone might actually be safe because of some timely advisory posted here, and that's priceless.

No, purely because lots of adverts on websites put people off. Even if you ignore them they still go into your subconscious, and I have 33 years of beamed-in crap floating around in there already.

If it helps our hosts travel the world and make more interviews and keep the community online at the same time. And perhaps enjoy a good glass of wine now and again. Then I don't mind looking at some coorporate crap.. It's all over the place, and you tend to filter it out anyway.

I'd prefer the real coorporate crap like ads for cars, loans for cars, lottery tickets and viagra adds, so there is no mistake, not the "we might mistake this for real" avian flu cure advertisements or the electric spiritual brain scalp massage tool.

This isn't about selling out to the coorporation, its about tapping resources from coorporations to accomplish OUR goals... Heck I'll even click on an add occasionally if it helps.

Yeah, good point. I probably should have elaborated on the specifics of what I am proposing.

By "responsible advertising" I mean: First and foremost that any products or services being advertised would be related to the PA subject matter and that, said advertiser would be approved by Kerry and Bill (as this is their "house").

Secondly the ads themselves would certainly have to be non invasive
(nothing moving across the screen or pop ups).

From Myplanet2:
"And lets not forget that there is a very simple third option which would render the advertising and subscription options moot, and that's donation."

I think this is a great idea and would certainly donate when I could.

Why not? All we see in ads is the top corporations goods. Not that they are quality, nor even useful in their intended perpose. You may discover a new source for organic seeds or a new alternative energy product. Why so adamant about no ads? It wouldnt hurt and we would still have the forum.

Put it this way, I do not enjoy Rense any less for the ads on the page. I am grateful he is there with an alternative news source.

Personally, I would add that companies wanting space may never have an input on control of content and that must be made clear with a contract in the onset.

I agree with Thunderbird, hand picked adverts perhaps with a relevance to what we are all about but otherwise no I would rather pay a subscription.

I get a bad gutfeeling everytime somebody is in it for the money, that`s not in my opinion why we are here, the truth about everything that`s going on and why things are the way they are, that`s why i`m here and hopeing to contribute with something somehow, without draging in talks about money, that`s not the issue, Kari

Whatever it takes to keep the forum running. Bill and Kerry will do what they think is best and that's fine with me.

If it happened I would not have a negative reaction to it. However, I participate on the internet to minimize my exposure to mass marketing. That is why I voted no. Now if the forum had sponsors that where listed that would be different. I just don't want to see a banner ad flashing away at the top or bottom of the screen. To easy for the higher ups to hide subliminal stuff in them.

What good will a subscription fee be be if the economy collapses and people are unable to pay? If people have to pay for this forum then there will be a very limited chance for new people to awaken.

Ads are not the answer either, unless ofcourse they are from partners promoting related subjects and are not flash.

That is exactly what I was advocating.

But now I wish I had added a donation option (suggestion from Myplanet2) to vote for, which is what I now think is the best option.
