I saw the bright start like 2 months ago and i thought it was an UFO because of its brightness, unfortunately I don't have a telescope so I went to bed thinking: Well, if I die tomorrow, at least I saw one! I called everybody and they told me there was some planetary aligment and you could see Jupiter and Venus very close to each other and actually I saw the two of them, Venus being bigger and both very bright. Never before in my life I saw Venus so bright like now. It's really remarkable.

I've just been outside and captured Venus on my consumer camcorder. With little surprise I realised it brings up almost the same picture as mentioned on the 'Triangular-shaped object caught on video' thread.

What can I conclude?
As you all say, it's utterly bright, possibly brighter than I've ever noticed before, but that might be subjective.
And, it ain't moving (or at least not very fast) and was in the SW possibly WSW.
I've got some close up shots, but whatever you want to believe it is, it's so far out that capturing it without a telescope is ridiculous, and I DID use my optical tele lens.

Do you have decent Binoculars??

If so.. that will reveal quite a bit by itself.

even if a mate or something has a good pair, borrow them,
almost as good as a telescope!

praises

My setup isn't too removed from compact binoculars.

The pictures can be found on this thread:

Maybe I'm imagining it, but, I've just been outside watching the sky..and..one of the stars in Orions Belt "appears" to be out of line with the other two..

You're in luck my friend. Recorded about 4 1/2 hours ago:

Now we just need someone who knows his orion's belt.

Isn't that sorta like "Where the Hell's the Milky Way these days"?

Seriously, for the past 2 years at least, the Milky Way has not been visible in the sky where it should be. That is truly something to ponder.

Anyone else notice the missing Milky Way?

the milky way is "missing" due to light pollution.

pretty sad.
and uncalled for.

new zealand is fixing it.

also... Czymra...

did you also do it without the "binoc" type lens that you have added?

All the shots that I posted here are with the tele lens on. I'm not sure if I have more of orion anywhere. Does it matter? The belt is right there....

there is certainly something "off" there.

Hey O11, do you see 4 bright stars in Czymra's pic?, if you look just above and a little to the left of the bright star on the right you'll see Orion's belt which looks to be in a straight line like it should. I can just barely see it because my monitor is not the best. Of course I could be wrong to and looking at dust specks, hmmm let me clean my monitor. LOL!

I did. Can hardly even get Venus close that way. I tried it with wide, no converted and tele. Without the tele it was almost useless. I think the Orion picture is with Wide, however. I remember now that I actually couldn't zoom out further and all other footage is basically closer to the horizon, so I cut off Orion's head. So sorry.

Well, I can clearly see Betelgeuse, the other shoulder, the belt and Rigel. Looks all pretty 'normal' to me.
Orion, play with your monitor and see if it helps. If that doesn't let me know and I'll raise the contrast more.

Okay I effed-up (the Milky Way has not been visible for years)

I meant to say that all of a sudden the Big Dipper has not been present for the past few years. And that is weird.
