European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
LONDON – Demonstrators hurled shoes at the tall iron gates outside the British prime minister's residence in London on Saturday and waved Palestinian flags in more than a dozen European cities as tens of thousands protested Israel's bombardment of Gaza.
Amid increasing criticism of Israel, international diplomatic efforts are growing to end the strikes, which have killed more than 460 people and left 1,700 injured. In London, at least 10,000 people, many carrying Palestinian flags, marched past Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Downing Street residence to a rally in Trafalgar Square. Outside Downing Street, hundreds of protesters stopped and threw shoes at the gates that block entry to the narrow road. Shoe-throwing has become a popular gesture of protest and contempt since an Iraqi journalist pelted U.S. President George W. Bush with a pair of brogues in Baghdad last month. Police estimated the crowd in London at 10,000 to 12,000, but organizers said the number was much higher. The marchers included activist Bianca Jagger, ex-Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and comedian Alexei Sayle. "As a Jew, it's very moving to see so many people who are so outraged at Israel's actions," Sayle said. "Israel is a democratic country that is behaving like a terrorist organization." for the rest of the story... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090103/..._gaza_protests |

Re: European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
Solidarity for our brothers and sisters, especially those who choose to protest the actions of the zionist terrorist government of Israel.
May the new year bring nothing but peace to both Israeli citizens and Palestine citizens and ruin to Israel's government! |

Re: European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
I have lobbied my MP in UK! Demanding that he does something. We are meddling in Iraq and Afghanistan whilst the cabal are manipulating our media and our government. What is happening in Gaza is totally illegal and immoral, this has ruined (thank goodness) any Zionist cause, and they have brought it upon themselves. If the UN are still in the grips of the cabal, this is a travesty of world justice. God bless the poor Palestinians - please - someone out there - stop the murdering holocaust of the Palestinians. The word 'holocaust' should now be given to all the millions of other victims of the world wars - manipulated by the Zionists and banksters, and taken away from the greedy cabal and the damnable ADL (getting funds from the US via Israel). Cheating, swindling fraudsters.

Re: European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
UNITED NATIONS – The U.N. Security Council scheduled emergency consultations Saturday night to address the escalation of violence in Gaza, and Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged an immediate halt to Israel's ground operation.
The decision to hold consulations came after Israeli tanks and infantry rolled into Gaza in a ground offensive in a widening war against Hamas. Ban said in a statement that he was "deeply concerned over the serious further escalation" of violence in Gaza. The statement said Ban had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert "and conveyed his extreme concern and disappointment" at the invasion. Ban "is convinced and alarmed that this escalation will inevitably increase the already heavy suffering of the affected civilian populations" and "called for an immediate end to the ground operation," the statement said. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and several Arab foreign ministers are flying to New York over the weekend to urge the Security Council to adopt an Arab draft resolution that would condemn Israel and demand a halt to its bombing campaign in Gaza. |

Youtube took this video down. It was posted elsewhere but the Youtube link now doesn't work. Truly horrific. Kawther Salam is a truly brave person, and at risk to herself disseminates truths about the real things happening to Palestinians. George Galloway was injured whilst protesting! http://www.presstv.ir/detail.aspx?id...onid=351020601 |

Re: European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
PARIS – Government officials and Jewish leaders are concerned the conflict in Gaza may spill over into violence in Europe, with attacks reported against Jews and synagogues in France, Sweden and Britain.
Assailants rammed a burning car into the gates of a synagogue in Toulouse, in southwest France, Monday night. A Jewish congregation in Helsingborg, in southern Sweden, was attacked Monday night by someone who "broke a window and threw in something that was burning," said police spokesman Leif Nilsson. And on Sunday slogans, including "murderers ... You broke the cease-fire," were daubed on Israel's Embassy in Stockholm. In Denmark, a 27-year-old Dane born in Lebanon to Palestinian parents is alleged to have injured two young Israelis last week in a shooting police suspect could be linked to the Gaza crisis. Belgium ordered police in Antwerp and Brussels to be on increased state of alert" Tuesday after recent pro-Palestinian protests ended in violence and arrests. |

Re: European protesters urge end to attacks on Gaza
Reacting with violence is totally wrong and people need to realize that anger and violence has never worked in this conflict and it never will work.
