Hi hippihill
Well said.
When I was first hospitalized age 24 or there abouts nothing was really know about alcoholism, it was not admitted to. I was in a Rock Group, You drank too much you got dried out, end of story, only it wasn't for me.

Now its accepted that its an in-curable illness and may well be in the genes.
Its not treatable by the medical profession, yes they are a great help in getting a person physically fit, but mentally no.
In AA you find true professionals in that they have done, it they know how.

Thats why I read and listen to those who are enlightened, they know.

I suggest.
We need to listen to them, those in a non-dualistic state NOW.
Not theory, but subjective experience, there may be more but thats enough for NOW.
We have the greatest opportunity now for the human race but we need to be humble enough to bow the knee and ask for help from our Creator .

Really ,takes humility now to learn and be before Creator.
Unfortunately all that we are taught through life is to boost our ego.

But truth can not be hidden.

See how the world falls apart now?
It`s all because the world `s premise is built on a lie.

It takes a humbleness to acknowledge that and move into right direction.

Great thread Beren!

Nothing to add, but a biblical verse here:

Quote:
Matthew 23:11-13 (Today's New International Version)

11. The greatest among you will be your servant.

12. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

I `ve noticed that whenever people sit and think real things and do real progress, evil comes and starts distracting.

Fight the distraction !

Let us learn real things, eternal things. For we are eternal beings.
Let us together flush away boastful spirit and evil pride spirit.

Let us embrace holy spirit!
And its fruits;

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

If only you could take first step, all other will unfold.

Father requires only first step, all others are his deed.
Then we open the door and marvel at the universe waiting for us.

I think that is a beautiful way of putting it Beren.
Yes the first step is to humbly ask for help at least from a ex drunks way of thinking.
It worked for me and continues to one moment at a time.

Of Equal Worth
Humility

The notion of humility as a virtue brings numerous images to mind. We tend to envision those rare individuals who humbly bear life’s struggles while downplaying their own strengths. Yet humility is also associated with people whose insecurities compel them to judge themselves unfavorably as a matter of course. The true definition of humility, however, does not correspond precisely with either of these images. Humility is not passivity. Rather, it is an utter lack of self-importance. The individuals who embody the concept of humility appreciate that each human being on the planet occupies a unique place on an infinite spectrum of development. Though they can take pride in their own accomplishments, they also understand that the people they interact with each day are as valuable and have as much to offer the world as they themselves do.

To be humble is to accept that while there will always be individuals more and less advanced than yourself, those on all parts of the spectrum of development can provide you with insights that further your personal evolution. Recognizing these insights is a matter of opening yourself to the fact that not only do others think and feel differently than you, but their life experiences have shaped them in a very different way than yours have shaped you. This means that while you may have a greater understanding in some areas, others will always be able to teach you something. When you cultivate a genuine yearning to know what skills and talents those you encounter have been blessed with, you cannot help but learn humility. You instinctively understand that emotions like envy breed resistance that prevents you from growing, and that being flexible in your interactions with others will help you connect with unexpected mentors.

When you practice humility, you want to become as accomplished and evolved as you can possibly be, yet you are willing to submit to the expertise of others to do so. You understand the scope of your aptitudes yet you choose to eradicate arrogance from your attitude, and you can distinguish the value you possess as an individual while still acting in the interests of your fellow human beings. Humility, simply put, is a form of balance in which you can celebrate your own worth while sincerely believing that every other person on the planet is just as worthy as you.

Love Always

Gandhi was humble yet look what was achieved.
Ramana my Avatar was one of the humblest that ever walked this earth.
Eckhart Tolle is a literally a gentleman, holds doors open for ladies, serves his partner Kim with breakfast, yet anyone who hears him talk will be very aware of the "power" and "love" that flows through him.
Humility is not weakness quite the reverse.

A BIG HUG to our spiritual mother and sister Mudra. You know that I am a very very happy man to see your words of wisdom are shining on the shores of the Avalon forums. You are the beacon of light whose guiding the ships keeping them from crashing into each other. Through my children I have learn what humility is all about. Today I was call by my daughter at school and told me that her teacher wanted to talk to me. She wanted me to know that she was a good student and insisted that I talk to all her teachers, one of the teaches confiscated her cell phone because she and other students where using their cell phones in class. I was amazed that these students between the ages of 10 yrs old to 14 yrs. old all had cell phones. Puerto Rico holds the number one spot in the most cell phone minutes used per population in the world. We visited all her teachers and she's doing very good. My daughter lives with her mother from a previous marriage a few hours away from where I live. The thing is that my daughter is a very mature 14 yr. old kid, all her teachers concur. I feel bad because I do not spend enough time with her yet she comforted me and told me not to worry because she was doing alright. How can I not be humble by this kid who shows such emotional maturity at such an early age.
Humility for me is acknowledging the beauty and greatness of other human beings, people like Ghandi, Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Desmond Tutu, Biko, Mother Theresa of Calcutta so many people who amid the suffering gave their hearts to help those in need without expecting anything in return.
These names and many more are edge in my heart as I try to learn from them and many more to be a better human being and Father.

Blessings to all...
