I can't get any websites to open just using names, but when I put in this forums IP address it came up.
Is anyone else having this happen? I happen to just prior to this click on the Alex Collier presentation. |

The link worked, but I think you'll have to make your own post there.

Un-Serenity (he heh)
What it means, most likely, is that your service provider's DNS server is on the fritz, or some such. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is the one that has their copy of the databse linking names like whoever.com to their IP number. Probably just a temporary outage. Things do break, sometimes. Just for grins, I actually looked up my example above. There really is a whoever.com and their IP no. is 216.246.74.34

I"ve never experienced this that is for sure. I do think it rather strange that I pulled up intellicast and the satellite image would not come up.
Yeh, I am not a happy camper, but if no one else is having a problem that makes me happy. Thanks |

did you get your access sorted?
I tried to use that IP address look up service you linked to, and I couldn't get it to identify any of the IP addresses I tried it on. I want to copy the IP's of any sites I visit regularly in case Clif High's suggestion that they DNS servers may be taken off line next year as a PTB action to curtail info on them and dissent from spreading on the net. Anyone know of a good tool or method of ascertaining the IP's? (Mac OS) |

Sounds like a DNS problem to me as well. What you can try to do, is to enter command prompt (type cmd in run) and type the following:
ipconfig /flushdns It will clear the local DNS list, it happens sometimes you get invalid references making trouble there. If that doesn't work, consider contacting your ISP as they may have trouble with their DNS. You can also try openDNS, if this works it's most likely the DNS servers of your ISP having issues. http://www.opendns.com/ |
