Even more interesting is that it wasn't a run of the mill variant (if there can ever be such a thing with a F-22 Raptor) but an airframe flying experimental sorties for the 412th test wing.

Its the very cutting edge of tactical military doctrine and test / evaluation. In short, the airframe would of been flown by a pilot of considerable skill and massive air hours (8000 hours is not uncommon at all). For this to happen here, it suggests that the airframe was either encountering a fault of some type, or it went through a manouver it could not handle. As a side note, Edwards is the 'white world' mirror image of Groom lake testing area, also known as area 51 and a fair few who flew in airforce suits went to the dark side and flew corporate for testing and evaluation at 51. |
