Conyers, by the way, is an influential Democrat who chairs the Judiciary Committee. He is far-left and totally secure in his district seat. That he is a co-sponsor proves that any Democrat will potentially co-sponsor this bill.

Congratulations, C4L Patriots! Not only are there now 242 co-sponsors for HR1207, but we turned up the heat and Eric Cantor felt it. He signed on as a co-sponsor Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

The following five Virginia Congressmen are still holding out:

Rep. Glenn C. Nye (VA-2)
Rep. Robert (Bobby) C. Scott (VA-3)
Rep. Jim Moran (VA-8)
Rep. Rick Boucher (VA-9)
Rep. Gerald (Gerry) E. Connolly (VA-11)

Call your representative who has not signed on today and demand that he co-sponsor HR1207.

Dear Congressman ________________,

I want you to join your colleagues in Virginia CD1, CD4, CD5, CD6, CD7, CD10 and 236 other representatives across the country in co-sponsoring and supporting the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, H.R. 1207.

Since 1913, our dollar has lost more than 95% of its purchasing power.

HR 1207 amends section 714 of Title 31 of the U.S. Code to remove the restrictions on how the Government Accountability Office (GAO) can audit the Federal Reserve.

With these limitations gone, the Fed's discount window operations, funding facilities, open market operations, and agreements with foreign central banks and governments would all finally be open to congressional oversight. The GAO would be required to audit the Fed by the end of 2010 and to report its findings to Congress.
