Default 2001--A Space Odyssey & the Vision of the "Son of man"

Briefly, the monolith in 2001--A Space Odyssey is symbolic of the "observing consciousness" Created 'by and in the image of God' (Genesis 1:27); with the HAL 9000 computer being a symbol for the consciousness of the 'thinker'.

The protagonist in the movie is David Bowman--Ishmael (representing scientific truth) being referred to as a "bowman" in Genesis 21:20; and the rider on the white horse (Revelations 6:1) also being referred to as "carrying a bow".

It is only after the time-reversal disabling of the 'thinker'-HAL 9000 computer--because it has gone psychotic and killed the crew (which is what the consciousness of the 'thinker' is threatening to do to this entire civilization)--that there is the segment entitled Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite:

Both auditorially and visually, this is a representation of the Vision of the "Son of man", referred to in the Thanksgiving Hymns of the Dead Sea Scrolls (1QH) as the "Vision of Knowledge"; echoes of which are also found in the Koran in the "Night Journey" of Mohammed.
