Vayu Mudra
This mudra balances the element of air in the body.

In this mudra the index finger makes contact with the base of the thumb while the other three fingers are kept straight.

This hand position is said to bring the element of air in balance in the body. It is particularly effective to rid the body of flatulence, especially gas in the stomach.

To do this advocates recommend that the posture be held until the gas has been expended. This may take anywhere from one to 15 minutes and should be stopped once relief has come.

The mudra is also recommended for treating and reducing the severity of many rheumatoid ailments including gout and arthritis.

It is also said to benefit those suffering with Parkinson's disease, cervical spondylosis, any paralysis of the face and problems with nerves in the neck.

When using Vayu Mudra to treat these ailments, practitioners recommend holding the posture for 45 minutes at least once every 12 to 24 hours.

For best results advocates suggest using the mudra for at least two months.
