In the Continuum, 10 volumes

IN THE CONTINUUM is a Thelemic periodical, published by the College of Thelema from 1976 through 1996. It features writings by Aleister Crowley which are difficult (or even impossible) to find in print, or which are basic studies in the understanding of Thelemic principles expressed in Liber L. vel Legis.

For over twenty years it has been the leader and standard against which all other Thelemic educational periodicals have been compared. This journal includes basic instructional articles of value to all students of Thelema, and helps to clarify some of the profundities of Crowley's thought. Articles on Qabalah, tarot, magick ritual, basic astrology, the history of Thelema, and other related subjects are included which will assist the student to find his or her own True Will through self-knowledge. There is a regular section on the Qabalistic analysis of various numbers, as well as poetry by Crowley and others.

John Michael Greer - Circles of Power

Despite its popularity, the Golden Dawn system of magic has potentials that are all but untapped. Even the simplest Golden Dawn practices have aspects that have never been brought out in print. This book is the definitive practical handbook on the Cabalistic magic of the Golden Dawn. It goes step-by-step through the entire body of Cabalistic ritual magic, from simple building blocks to powerful advanced techniques.

This is an absolutely first rate book. Greer discusses modern ritual magic from the golden dawn tradition in what is probably the most succinct and informatory book on the subject ever. He covers the major rituals and does what practically no other author does in explaining the why things are done as they are.

Henrik Bogdan - Western Esotericism and Rituals of Initiation

For more than three hundred years the practice of Masonic rituals of initiation has been part of Western culture, spreading far beyond the boundaries of traditional Freemasonry. Henrik Bogdan explores the historical development of these rituals and their relationship with Western esotericism. Beginning with the Craft degrees of Freemasonry--the blueprints, as it were, of all later Masonic rituals of initiation--Bogdan examines the development of the Masonic High Degrees, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn--the most influential of all nineteenth-century occultist initiatory societies--and Gerald Gardner's Witchcraft movement of the 1950s, one of the first large-scale Western esoteric New Religions Movements.

"This is truly an original work on an important subject. The most significant thing is probably the definition of `ritual.' The field of Western esotericism is a young one, and while some of its terminology is now a matter of common consent, ritual has never been subjected to scrutiny in this context. Bogdan also shows how different rituals convey different elements of the Western esoteric tradition: some Freemasonic ritual teaches alchemy; the Golden Dawn teaches Kabbalah; and witchcraft teaches principles of sexual magic. The entire book has an earnestness about it that makes the reader take these rituals seriously." -- Joscelyn Godwin, author of The Real Rule of Four

Samael Aun Weor - The Initiatic Path In The Arcane Of Tarot And Kabbalah

The founder of the International Gnostic Movement and author of over sixty books, the Venerable Samael Aun Weor dedicated his life to delivering the Gnostic Teachings to humanity. His message has spread to every continent on the planet, inspiring millions to work toward the Self-realization of the Being. For more information, visit gnosis-usa.com.

In this cornerstone work, Samael Aun Weor explains in clear terms the entire basis of all esoteric work: Kabbalistic symbology. This is the language of the Internal Worlds.

This book is no mere repetition of what others have written: it is the direct experience of the author. This revolutionary work examines the Tarot and Kabbalah as never before, with brilliant revelations about the mysterious sphere of Daath, whose true nature was never before discussed publically.

R.J.Stewart - The Underworld Initiation: A journey towards psychic transformation (Celtic Muth & Legend, V. 3)

This stimulating and important study provides evidence for a potent transformative tradition within the esoteric consciousness of the West. Drawing on material from hitherto disregarded sources, RJ. Stewart reconstructs the key to a true understanding of Western esoteric lore, suggesting that the bulk of so-called Western occultism is an intellectual fabrication derived mainly from nineteenth-century sources. The authentic magical tradition of the west, the author claims, is concerned with the UnderWorld Initiation, a powerful system of altering consciousness in a dynamic and far-reaching manner, the central symbols of which survive in songs and ballads whose roots are in the Celtic and pre-Celtic past.

Among the subjects covered are:

* the non-Qabalistic Tree of Life
* the emasculating role of psychology in esoteric studies
* the Summoning of Ancestors
* the Dark Queen and the Seer
* the Tongue that Cannot Lie

Lon Milo Duquette - The Key to Solomon's Key

Sketching out a fascinating network of historic figures, cults, and Christendom, this book by an occult-studies expert and respected authority on magic and sorcery takes Western spiritual traditions seriously—but examines them with common sense and self-effacing humor. Working backward from the Freemasons to one of their original orders, the 14th-century Knights Templar, the account considers sorcery, heresy, and intrigues; explores the legend that the Knights possessed a powerful secret dangerous to the Church of Rome; and finds an essential clue to the order's practices in their connection to the biblical Solomon, king of Israel in the 10th century BC.

Hermes Trismegistus - The Divine Pymander (printed in 1650)

Within these pages lies a gold mine of wisdom. The author, Hermes Trismegistus, may not have been a single personage, but the information here is both illuminating and highly relevant. These teachings have been often referred to by the greatest philosophers of Greece and the Church Fathers of Christianity. Tertullian and Justin Martyr once stated that if anyone wanted to learn about God, they should listen to Hermes. He likely lived in Alexandria, and was influenced by early Christian and Gnostic ideas. The most influential work of hermetic/occult literature.

Book of Lambspring (1607)

This poem was first printed in Nicolas Barnaud, Triga chemica: de lapide philosophico tractatus tres..., Leiden 1599, but without illustrations. This was reprinted in volume III of the Theatrum Chemicum, 1602. It was issued by Lucas Jennis three times in 1625 with a series of 15 emblems. The three books issued were Dyas chymica tripartita, the Musaeum hermeticum, and De lapide philosophico.

The Book of Lambspring is a short work with an introductory section in verse and an emblem showing a threefold furnace. Following the tradition of emblem books of the period its series of fifteen emblems each bears a motto or title with a verse on the facing page. The Book of Lambspring is a work of spiritual alchemy, has few references to physical alchemical processes, and it seems unlikely that it could ever have provided any clues that might help someone engaged upon physical experimentation. Instead, it is a clear, powerful and extremely useful statement of the inner work of the spiritual alchemist. Its verses point to the soul and spirit involved in the alchemical transformation and its fifteen emblems are evocative symbols of these inner processes.

John Dee - Monas Hieroglyphica (1564)

This is John Dee's enigmatic treatise on symbolic language. Although published in 1564 at age 37, he considered it valuable throughout his life. The Monas is a highly esoteric work. In it he claims himself in possession of the most secret mysteries. He wrote it in twelve days while apparently in a peak (mystical) state: “[I am] the pen merely of [God] Whose Spirit, quickly writing these things through me, I wish and I hope to be.” He claims it will revolutionize astronomy, alchemy, mathematics, linguistics, mechanics, music, optics, magic, and adeptship.

The Monas Hieroglyphica (or Hieroglyphic Monad) is an esoteric symbol invented and designed by John Dee, the Elizabethan Magus and Court Astrologer of Elizabeth I of England. It is also the title of the 1564 book in which Dee expounds the meaning of his symbol.

The Hieroglyphic embodies Dee's vision of the unity of the Cosmos and is a composite of various esoteric and astrological symbols. Dee wrote a commentary on it which serves as a primer of its mysteries. However, the obscurity of the commentary is such that it is believed that Dee used it as a sort of textbook for a more detailed explanation of the Hieroglyph which he would give in person. In the absence of any remaining detail of this explanation we may never know the full significance of the Glyph.

Wayland Skallagrimsson - Scientific Magic

Recent discoveries in the fields of neurobiology and psychology have opened up new avenues of exploration into and explanation of the practice of magic, a field hitherto resistant to scientific analysis, due to the highly subjective nature of its practices. I have formulated hypotheses to explain the particular claims made by magicians as to the effectiveness of their rituals, as well as why such practices continue even in rational, materialistic societies skeptical and dismissive of them. I have presented traditional magical lore side by side with scientific explanations for that lore, as well as analyses of relevant philosphical issues. I have also provided a course of instruction designed to take the student through basic initiation in the practices of magic to proficiency in them. I have presented two traditional systems of magical practice (runic and cabalistic), from two rather different cultures, and compared them for the purpose of finding commonalities that would indicate the presence of real, analysable phenomena, divorced from simple cultural prejudices and superstitions. Hypotheses were formed from looking at these commonalities in the light of the results of the new neurobiological and psychological discoveries. I used my own experiences as well as those of other practicing magicians as a data pool. The practice of magic is no mere superstition or escapist fantasy. It is instead a badly misunderstood, embryonic science dealing with reprogramming the mind and altering the state of physiology to improve the functionality of its practitioners in highly specific and unusual ways. Contrary to the standard views of most modern sciences, the only differences between commonly accepted scientific understandings and occult lore are philosophical in nature. The seeming antagonism between the two schools of thought are rooted in a misunderstanding of each other's basic philosophies and languages. The practice of magic is a real phenomenon, though poorly understood, with real benefits to its practitioners.

Iamblichus - Theurgia or The Egyptian Mysteries Reply of Abammon, the Teacher to The Letter of Porphyry to Anebo together with Solutions of the Questions Therein Contained

Iamblichus (c. A.D. 250-325) is among the most important of the so-called Neoplatonic philosophers, second only to Plotinus. He was a student of Plotinus' disciple Porphyry. His influential treatise Theurgia, or On the Mysteries of Egypt deals with a 'higher magic' which operates through the agency of the gods. Agrippa refers frequently to Iamblichus in his Occulta Philosophia. Iamblichus also had a strong influence on other Renaissance occultists like Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, and Giordano Bruno. Iamblichus is also explicitly mentioned in the Grimorium Verum.
