Yes, I also have heard of Emoto's work and followed his stuff for some time. Quite interesting work.
For me it is logical about the mind-matter-interaction and also about the sound connection.

Mantras are especially connected with breathing and immagination.
And therefore are interconnected with your physical body which consists mostly of water.
