For anyone who is interested in reading on this topic, I recommend you read Dmitry Olov's book Reinventing Collapse. He explains many of the details as to why the USSR collapsed and made a very good point of why the US is in the same situation.
This analysis where other countries takes control of part of the US has some holes. One is that the US is the reserve currency of the world. When we fall, everyone else falls (although maybe not to the same extent as we do). If/when this happens, the other countries will be working overtime just to prevent their own collapse. They're not going to have the resources to colonize us.
Think of China. Everyone is saying how many resources they have and how strong they are becoming, but consider what percentage of their GDP is based on sales to the US. It's very substantial. America is the buyer of goods and services from all of these other countries. When we fall, they fall.
I predict that in this scenario, everything will become smaller. States will automatically secede and become more soverign. Certain cities and counties may become soverign states in their own right.
