In one of Alex Collier's first lectures from 1996 he mentions the very same thing as this thread, but the number he mentions is 22, not 20. The reason for us having genes of so many species is due to the manipulation that has been done to the human race for thousands of years. According to Alex Collier our DNA is being activated little by little and eventually leading to a climax by 2012.

Look up his 1996 lecture and you can get all the details. It's not the first time he mentions it but it's one of his best lectures.
