Default Re: Israel Is Nobody's Friend.

Thanks, Antaletriangle (again) for posting this. After my comment last night about Binyamin Netanyahu in the "catastrophe" thread - actually Netanyahu reminds me of Feardia's nice signature, except: Netanyahu is the catastrophe we've been 'waiting' for - I felt that it's a complex topic. This post is timely and interesting wrt attempts to identify historical context/players.

Today, I had a few thoughts about Gaza. The first regards this article, "Robert Fisk’s World: When did we stop caring about civilian deaths during wartime? The mere monitoring of bloody conflict assumes precedence over human suffering." (Saturday, 31 January) It's always the same old boat show: civilians lose. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion...e-1521708.html

The Washington Post's article this AM "Israel's Key Election Issue: Did War End Too Soon?" By Griff Witte, Monday, February 2, 2009; Page A01 http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...020100422.html

What's interesting about this article are the item's comments. In particular, earlier in the day, VMR1 wrote: As I see it, a contributing factor to the the Nazis' plan to exterminate the Jews was Jews' very survivability. The Jews' love of life was seen as a deficiency, a weakness of character. i.e. something to despise. Jews have no honor because they'll cling to life no matter what. This was a particularly sadistic - I would say particularly Germanic - design to exterminate a people, as if conducting a scientific experiment on the limits of Jewish survivability. Therefore, today we know that it is better that they hate and fear us rather than despise us. This way there will be no more Oswiecims and Sobibors.

Israel is nobody's friend (well, not true - there are many friends/foes), but Israel likes it that way? A person could bicker and banter forever about one outrage to the next, from dehumanizing the Other to methods to kill and more strategies to ensure survival. With the Israeli election upcoming, what I never understand, is that nations barter civilians and peace is rarely a national security option.

It's the same boat salesmen on duty. [new boats]

peace
