How to meditate?

Just wanted to ask the folks here where I can find useful information on meditation. I am interested in meditating but I do not know where to start and I have trouble processing some of the information on it already presented here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: How to meditate?

There are as many ways to meditate as there are people doing it.

One way is:

1) Recognize first that its not easy and that there will be lots of time you want to stop because you are not getting anywhere. I heare this all the time.

2) Find a time that you can set aside every day where you will get some peace and quiet and be able to sit undisturbed by children, cell phones, etc etc.

3) Sit comfortably (this can be elaborated on, I am learning my way from a book written by Swami Rama, you can look him up)

4) Shut your eyes

5) Pay attention to your breath

6) Do nothing else but breath in a relaxed and even way

7) Allow thoughts to come and go, but do not attach your attention on them beyond the awareness of those thoughts. If you realise your attention has wavered, dont panic go back to being aware of your breathing.

8) Stop when you feel its a good time to stop.

No idea. It's a situation that's easily remedied though.
