legalising marijuana

Wow, just read this, Campaigners in California are talking about legalising cannabis. saying the state should ease its crippling financial crisis - by legalising marijuana and collecting tax on its sale.

God what next.

Here.

Absolutely, the 'war on drugs' is a miserable failure, i hope California can do this and show the rest of the USA how stupid current laws are!
And hemp is the answer to so many other problems as well (energy, deforestation, etc).

Seriously...I've never had a drink or smoked a joint in my life...but I presently think that hard liquor should be illegal...and that marijuana should be legalized. It should be obtainable in pure form and at a reasonable price from any pharmacy...with a doctor's prescription. The doctor would give a check-up and would counsel regarding the dangers of pot...and would provide a referral to a mental health professional for those with deep-seated issues. Then they would write a prescription aka a ticket to paradise! :smoke: The pot would be taxed to the max...to provide 'free' doctor's appointments related to pot. I've spoken with dozens of users about this. Pot would only be a legal issue for pushers...and if laws are broken because of the pot usage. The Libertarian in me comes out for this issue. Even if it were legal...I still wouldn't smoke pot. I'm messed-up enough already! :tongue2:

I don't think prohibition of any kind in this country is the answer, whether it be marijuana or hard liquor.

Sorry, that's the Libertarian in me speaking.

Why should a sovereign need to ask for permission when utilizing a plant from God for Us, a spiritual sacrament for ones own belief? Why should we tax Nature when it has been left here for us form God? Do you think that is right or libertarian, to impose tax on gods plants? Not to be a bitch about it but I think we need to start looking at things in this manner. Enter more into a spiritual sense.

I'm a pragmatist. I like to pursue things that have a reasonable chance of actually working. I'm sorry that I'm not a sovereign purist.

I'm just saying, why should we be in this mindset of always having to ask for permission? This does not violate Common Law. It's just some policy. It's a majority of these "policy violations" that is screwing up the world and destroying a lot of peoples life's. You don't need to be a sovereign purist to understand policy, and what gets us into these policy's.
Taxing a plat could be a good thing in a way. I think it's just a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Re: legalising marijuana

I agree the revenue collected by taxing cannabis sales will not be a magic bullet that will suddenly reverse CA's budget situation.
But it will cause indirect savings in the form of freeing up cops/courts/corrections from bothering with pot smokers so they can concentrate on actual problems.

I just wonder if there is some kind of shady agenda behind all this, like the Rockefellers being behind the bra burnings in the 60?
