What's THIS on sun telescope?!?
 

I just found this on the soho pics from 8/16. Is it from perseids stuff?

It kinda looks like a photo anomaly to me. It's kinda hard to tell if the circular shape is solid or not. The "tail" of the anomaly does however seem to have the right angle compared to its approach towards the sun. It's hard to tell if this could be something that passed the telescope at a very short distance or if it is at about the same distance as the sun itself.
It also strike me that it passed rather quickly, from one picture to the next taken a little less than 40 minutes apart. Would be quite the speed on that thing if it was at a distance.

I'm no picture expert though, far from it. So this is only based on how I observe it.

It does however seem that something disturbed SOHO around the time of that anomaly, considering the lines that appear in the 2 pictures prior to the picture posted above.

After looking a little around, it seems the official conclusion is debris. I searched through a collection of debris anomalies on SOHO images and found something that can slightly resemble what we are seeing on this one.

So unless there appear some better explanation, I think it's safe to say this one's a dud.

True, but it depends what makes the anomaly appear. You can get all sorts of odd graphical anomalies in a photo that aren't a direct image of the actual debris. I'm guessing the shutter on the telescope aren't instant, so smearing is highly likely if something goes by.

Like in this case, the sphere shown is almost the same size as the sun disc, might even be exactly the same size...haven't measured it. The fact that this object appeared and passed out of view in a matter of ~30 minutes suggest it either went by very close to the telescope or it went really really fast (incredibly fast) if it was at about the same distance as the sun itself. This is apparent if you look at videos that contain comets in them, they will usually be visible on 3-4 frames before they are gone, sometimes even more.
