Safer Banking Options

Hello Everyone

This is my first post - been observing for about one year and finally registered last month.

I just wanted to share a website/tool to help those, like myself, who still need to keep at least some money in a bank.

http://moveyourmoney.info/find-a-bank

I am looking forward to being part of a world that no longer has a need to base quality of life on how much money someone does or does not have. However, in the mean time, I would like what little I do have to be safe :winksmiley02:

Out here in California, wife and I bailed on WAMU last year.

We moved our business to Union Bank, which last I checked did not deal in derivatives, and such, and had little or no holdings in flakey real estate loans, at all.

Just searched at the site, and it came up with:
SILVERGATE BANK
3692 Sunnyside Drive
Riverside, CA 92506

Will have to look them up. Thanx for the link,
Fred

I use a credit union to borrow and save:

The modern Credit Union Movement traces its origins to Germany and to Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffiesen, the Mayor of a small town in southern Germany who in 1849 formed societies which later turned into Credit Unions

The purpose of these Credit Unions was to enable people to help themselves in relieving debt and proverty.

Raiffeisen considered the following conditions as essential to the success of the Credit Union Movement:

* Only Members could save and borrow.
* Loans were made for provident and productive purposes at a fair and reasonable rate of interest.
* The character of a member would be the most important security of his/her loan.
* Membership is open within a Common Bond to all people irrespective of class, creed, colour or political persuasion

These conditions still apply to this day

Brinty, just for you...

When growing up, my boys hated that I was a BBP (bloodborn pathogen) instructor that never missed an opportunity to discuss "safer bonking options":naughty:

I checked the list for myself and family members and most of us are using banks on the list - hard to convince the 20 somethings to use a bank that isn't open 7 days a week!

As for credit unions - I think that website had a place to review them also.
