SANTIAGO, Chile - A strong earthquake rocked Chile as Sebastian Pinera prepared to be sworn in as president. The preliminary magnitude was 7.2. It happened at 11:39:47 a.m. local time. The epicenter was 77 miles WSW from the capital. viking |

There have been a significant amount of after shocks but they are mostly at 35 kilometres deep. I am not a geologist but I think that is odd
It is not unkown that strong aftershocks can happen The problem with Chile is the Chaiten Caldera, it is truly enormous! Love |

The earthquake shook the ground near Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins near the Chilean coast. It struck at 11:39 a.m. local time (9:39 a.m. ET) as Chile prepared to inaugurate a new president, Sebastian Pinera.
