Free VST's for Home/Studio Music Recording

Hello All,

THis is for those whom are musicians or create/record their own music.
It's been perhaps two decades since I was creating/recording music for various local groups, but recently I've had the desire to re-ignite the fire.

While familiarizing myself with the recording software that is a available now, I also sought out some free instrument sounds I could use, without paying the big box prices. I found this website and was quite impressed with the quality sounds you can download for free: www.rekkerd.org.

Take a look and enjoy!

Thanks for all the postings guys!
What do You think of Audacity? It's an open source software, though I believe it doesn't support VST's by default, yet, but there is an optional like vst enabler for it.
Has anybody used it at all?

Every time I install a version of Audacity I get frustrated with it's daft interface. I'm an old dog with a perfectly functional copy of CoolEdit Pro2. I can't see any reason to stop using it for the forseeable future, it's perfect in every way as an editor and recorder of single files. It has a multitrack mode also but i don't bother using it because it's a bit unfriendly. For multi track stuff I've discovered a wonderfully versatile program called n-Track Studio, which is a VST host as good as any.

( Cool Edit later got bought out by Adobe and became Adobe Audition )

I see... Don't really know the meaning of "daft" (not a native english speaker), but I guess I know what You mean with it. It is not at the state of a corporate sponsored software, that's for sure, but I'm a "new" dog who also happens to be a big fan of, or should I say very much pro open source software.
I'm kinda interested in finding some good oss "free" software host, so I would appreciate your feedback on that.
I know that Ableton Live and FL Studio are good ones, and of course the one that's used in the professional studios which name I forgot, but I don't have the resources now; I don't even have good monitor speakers, yet.
It just has been my dream to make music since my early years- didn't really got the chance though to buy the needed equipment.
Peace.
