Seeing as how there's no more than 15 comments and about 30k views since that youtube video was released, I'd say it's pretty far from "making waves".

And those are sky lanterns. Coincidentally, that vid was taken around the time the mid-autumn festival is held for Chinese Holiday.

Your argument would be valid if you didn't take into consideration it's trajectory, the thing dissapearing into a white spec of light then reappearing and the probe thingy that seems to be detaching from the craft(at that time you can clearly see that the light coming from the probe thing lights up the bottom of the craft, and that my friend doesn't look remotely liike a lantern).

Looks like great use of a 3D program like Maya and some camera tracking software.
The camera tracks the path of the ufo with a great deal of accuracy even seeming to anticipate the movement of the craft at times.
The way they follow the probe then dart back to the main craft and don't miss a beat seems way to perfect to me.
Also notice how they include buildings in the start of the shot, there is no light being cast onto either building as far as I can see, during the parts where the craft creates the sphere of light and releases the probe they pan up and away from the building so they don't have to show light being cast onto the building sitting bellow the craft.
Seems like a fake to me.
None of the footage of the craft would be hard to create for someone with a fair bit of talent with 3D software.
Whoever made the video should get a job with a top notch special effects house, they did a great job on the actual craft.
