Re: What's in your vagina?

Remember the toxic shock deaths in the 1980s? (From tampons.) From that time, other products became available, like as this woman said, moon caps, sponges, organic tampons and pads and so on. Some women even opt for surgery to stop menses altogether. Thanks for the post. Good resources in there. I agree, it's time. Cotton crops are the most heavily pesticided crop around, because it's not eaten. Yet... The animal deaths on the fields was alarming. I've heard about the suicides and terrible rashes of farmers in India.

Bt Cotton, Multinationals and Indian Farmer Suicides
By Alan White Monday, March 02, 2009
Farmers in India have lately been succumbing to suicide at an alarming rate, due to a combination of overindebtedness and crop failures. A compelling paper presented at this week’s International Association of Consumer Law Conference laid part of the blame on regulatory failures that permitted Monsanto Corporation to sell genetically modified cotton seed (Bt Cotton) representing it as disease resistant and high-yielding, when in fact it turned out to be neither.
http://pubcit.typepad.com/clpblog/20...-suicides.html

This is the guy she mentioned, hadn't heard of him :thumb_yello:

Genetic Roulette
The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods
by Jeffrey M. Smith - Eating genetically modified food is gambling with every bite. The biotech industry's claim that genetically modified (GM) foods are safe is shattered in this groundbreaking book. Sixty-five health risks of the foods that Americans eat every day are presented in easy-to-read two-page spreads.
http://www.geneticroulette.com/

The stats I read were that 80% of people in Canada (Greenpeace study) support GMO labeling. Yes, a person can shop organic, alternative, farm, but it still doesn't make it right in the big picture. The Monsantos still seem to push the idea that it "helps" - world hunger yada yada.

Don't even get me going on the Monsanto vs. Schmeiser court case in Saskatchewan, Canada. Monsanto called the canola seeds that blew onto Percy's farm its technology, and sued him!

wow, yes very much so!
my mother almost died from toxic shock in the early 80's

luckily, she recovered, but not before almost dying and being
extremely (bed ridden) sick for months.

it was very scary!

I can only hope and pray that this will stop!

Any vegans watching this might already know about Natracare products but for everyone's info, they are are organic, not tested on animals, not chlorine bleached or treated, biodegradable and don't have rayon.

Thanks for the info she-ra, my girlfriend is vegan and ill pass on the info. Just one thing, do they test normal sanitary stuff on animals?

Post collapse sanitation should be something everyone has given some thought to. No matter how rich you are or how much access you have to storage, you will run out one day.

Without getting too icky - how was this done say in the days before mass capital intensive farming?

A..

Hiya, yes they do test pretty much every chemical/ingredient in everything on animals - feminine hygiene products to condoms, make up to nail varnish/polish, household cleaning products, deoderants to body wipes, toothpastes to mouth wash etc. Proctor and Gamble own a lot of the companies that supply a lot of these products for example including sanitary wear such as the major brand 'Always' - hence I find avoiding them helps avoid of unethical products in general.

Hope that helps :)

Anchor - I'm not too au fait with the process but it's similar to nappies/diapers (another one people worried about gmo cotton will need to remember) before disposables - re-useable/washable fabrics were used, there were probably recommended methods and perhaps herbal additions too.

There is lots of lore, stories, methods. Rolled up fabric, which is rinsed. (Make yer own pads, sun dry.) In the old days, pregnancy lol, long term (up to 2 years) breastfeeding inhibits menses for a lot of women, ...

I heard a really nice one, aboriginal. The women in the group tended to menstruate at the same time, lunar earth kind of togetherness. So, at menses time, they all take off, sit on moss stones for a week, catch up with each other, sewing, the grandparents look after the kids :original:

Then at ovulation time, the women get all (especially!!) amorous again, and the men have missed them too. There were known herbs for inducing abortions, just as others for encouraging fetal growth or labour etc.
