Mindfulness “Mindfulness” is the English translation of the Pali word " sati " bare attention. When you first become aware of something, there is a fleeting instant of pure awareness just before you conceptualize the thing, before you identify it. That is a state of awareness. Ordinarily, this state is short-lived. It is that flashing split second just as you focus your eyes on the thing, just as you focus your mind on the thing, just before you objectify it, clamp down on it mentally, and segregate it from the rest of existence. It takes place just before you start thinking about it—before your mind says, “Oh, it’s a dog.” That flowing, soft-focused moment of pure awareness is mindfulness. In that brief flashing mind-moment you experience a thing as an un-thing. You experience a softly flowing moment of pure experience that is inter locked with the rest of reality, not separate from it. When this mindfulness is prolonged by using proper techniques, you find that this experience is profound, and it changes your entire view of the universe. The Characteristics of Mindfulness Mindfulness is mirror-thought. It reflects only what is presently hap pening and in exactly the way it is happening. There are no biases. Mindfulness is nonjudgmental observation. It is that ability of the mind to observe without criticism. With this ability, one sees things without condemnation or judgment. One is surprised by nothing. One simply takes a balanced interest in things exactly as they are in their natural states. Mindfulness is an impartial watchfulness. It does not take sides. Mindfulness is nonconceptual awareness. Mindfulness is present-time awareness. It takes place in the here and now. It is the observance of what is happening right now, in the present moment. Mindfulness is non-egotistic alertness. It takes place without ref erence to self. With mindfulness one sees all phenomena without references to concepts like “me,” “my,” or “mine.” Mindfulness is awareness of change. It is observing the passing flow of experience. It is watching things as they are changing. It is seeing the birth, growth, and maturity of all phenomena. Mindfulness is participatory observation. The meditator is both participant and observer at one and the same time. There are three fundamental activities of mindfulness. 1. Mindfulness reminds you of what you are supposed to be doing. 2. Mindfulness sees things as they really are. 3. Mindfulness sees the true nature of phenomena. Love Always mudra |

Re: Word Of The Day
This word expresses a human attribute that is the most important one, in my opinion. (Although it needs to be accompanied by healthy self-esteem.) I think that if you have it, you probably have the best interests of humankind in your heart:
humility hu·mil·i·ty The quality or condition of being humble. [early 14c., from O.Fr. humilité, from L. humilitatem (nom. humilitas) "lowness, insignificance," in Church L. "meekness," from humilis "humble."] “Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of Truth and Knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.” ~ Albert Einstein http://completewellbeing.com/static/...vs-modesty.jpg |

genuine
gen·u·ine Free from hypocrisy or dishonesty; sincere. [1596, from L. genuinus "native, natural," from root of gignere "beget" (see genus), perhaps infl. in form by contrasting adulterinus "spurious." Alternative etymology is from L. genu "knee," from an ancient custom of a father acknowledging paternity of a newborn by placing it on his knee.] “Genuine forgiveness does not deny anger but faces it head-on.” ~ Alice Miller |
Re: Word Of The Day

flex·i·bil·i·ty Responsive to change; adaptable: a flexible schedule. [1610s, of physical things, from Fr. flexibilité, from L. flexibilitatem, from flexibilis (see flexible). agape
1. adv. & adj. a·gape (pronunciation) In a state of wonder or amazement, as with the mouth wide open. 2. n. a·ga·pe (pronunciation) Love that is spiritual, not sexual, in its nature. quintessence
quin·tes·sence The pure, highly concentrated essence of a thing. [early 15c., in ancient and medieval philosophy, "pure essence, substance of which the heavenly bodies are composed," lit. "fifth essence," from M.Fr. quinte essence (14c.), from M.L. quinta essentia, from L. quinta, fem. of quintus "fifth" + essentia (see essence). Loan-translation of Gk. pempte ousia, the "ether" added by Aristotle to the four known elements (water, earth, fire, air) and said to permeate all things. Its extraction was one of the chief goals of alchemy. Sense of "purest essence" (of a situation, character, etc.) is first recorded 1580s.] http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...ce58293130.jpg |

A constantly changing set of colors. 3. A series of changing phases or events: a kaleidoscope of illusions. [1817, lit. "observer of beautiful forms," coined by its inventor, Sir David Brewster (1781-1868), from Gk. kalos "beautiful" + eidos "shape" (see -oid) + -scope, on model of telescope, etc. Figurative meaning "constantly changing pattern" is first attested 1819 in Lord Byron, whose publisher had sent him one.] You can go into Mark Twain's material and prove anything you want. He was against war. He was for war. He was against rich people and he was for them. He was a kaleidoscope." ~Hal Holbrook |
