Default Spate of banned members..

There has been a spate of banned members lately.

I have a suggestion. Instead of evicting members that do not easily follow the majority consensus, it might be more appropriate for the community to get together and participate in an intelligent conversation -- with the said member.

You know, communication can do wonders. If I thought these banned members were really trolls, I wouldn't be making this post. However, I can clearly see that they are not. They are more often than not members that do not agree with the forum consensus.

Anyone who goes against the forum consensus around here, and disagrees too often has two things happen: 1). Victimization by a group of regulars who have agreed what the consensus is (note: a new member may not "realize" that what they're saying isn't a forum consensus -- keep that in mind), 2). They are eventually banned for being a "troll". Ironically, if you go through the posts of all concerned, it is the regular members doing all the trolling and making all the insulting and negative comments.

So, My suggestion is: Take it easy with the ban button. Communication and sincerity works a LOT better. I haven't seen that tried around here. All I see are concerns being ignored and regular members being allowed to victimize whoever they like until they get upset, fire back, and are banned.

Do you want a constructive community or not? Then think about this post..

WarriorServant, Acora, both got banned. However WarriorServant has come back again today and is operating under other alias's. & truthwalker is one of them.

It's not censorship per se. It's just that this forum has a mob of regulars who are free to go around saying what they like to and about other members. Unfortunately it is the newer members that are being banned, because they have trouble dealing with the mob.

To see who got banned, just look at some threads around here. You will see on the left: "banned", "banned", "banned".. then if you go and look at the last posts of the member, you will see that they often said nothing insulting at all, but were simply mobbed by a majority that didn't agree and didn't want to hear what the member said. It is the regular members that are being nasty. It's all right here in plain English for all to see. It's actually a bit of a joke.

It's absolutely pointless to ban people. It makes more sense to work out what the problem is and fix it so the community can run better in the future. Banning anyone people don't like is silly. We all can't like everyone. That's life. Clicking "ban" is weak.

Truthwalker, I answered your first thread pro-actively. However...I'm stunned that after joining today and starting you're thread-making (4 different threads in less than an hour) and responding to them that you had enough time to see that we had a "spate of banned members lately." I'm simply wondering if you were a lurker and joined recently because of this problem or if you really are a new member who had enough time to look through the past couple days of posts and responses.

I am not accusing you of anything, I'm just amazed quite frankly that you were aware of this problem already.

I am aware of many many things, all about this forum, all about its members and all about the administration. I am here to make sure truth gets a chance.

You only get banned when you break the rules. And they both broke the rules. They also had plenty of warning before the ban

Perhaps there should be a section of Avalon...open only to banned members. You know...sort of an Internet Purgatory...called 'Island of the Banned'...'Banned Members Only'...or 'Rock Banned'!

Banning happens, everywhere on alll forums lllike this one. What forum out their does not alllow the big "ban" theory. Is this your first time on a forum like this? I have not found one yet that allows anyone to anything they want to whoever they want however they want. So good luck trying to change this fact. Especially coming in as a new member, but I will support ya.

I'm not very technical, but I'm trying to understand how the same banned person can keep creating aliases over and over again.

Is it just the username that is banned and nothing more?

Just curious.

I need this info in case I get banned.

This forum identifies banned members by IP, email, username and cookies.

Clear all the above things and you're set to go again.

Like I said: Banning is not only pointless -- it's weak. I understand banning "real" trouble makers (and those that spread porn), but real trouble makers aren't being banned. People who the majority (including the mods) don't agree with are being banned. It's weak. It's the easy way out. Members who post things that others don't agree with are being victimized and then thrown in the "too hard" basket. It can all be fixed and there's no need for the bans if people will just stop turning threads that they don't agree with into a hate filled mockery fest.

Wouldn't that be just the same person conversing with their 13 different aliases?

"Rock Banned" - Nice.

It's a ridiculous idea that wouldn't solve a single problem.

This forum does not yet get it that allowing members to turn the threads of new members into a big joke is unconstructive. That's where the true problem lies. Until it is identified, mods are just going to keep banning people wondering why the whole world seems to be against them.

Banning people = useless.
Insisting on sincerity and not jokes, mockery and trolling by regulars = BINGO!

I think there should be a mute button , like on chat rooms, if you dont like one particular person you can mute him or her. But people love drama.

Wont solve anything. People should just start being more sincere towards others. That's the true remedy of what people perceive to be hassles around here.

This problem of banning is only for those who cannot be social enough to debate. And if you cannot do that constructively...you have no business here.

Hate filled mockery? The only ones that had any hateful response were the ones banned. And prompted it. so being that you are new here..maybe before you decide to be a judge..you might want to go back and read the banned members posts. Then decide. And come back with some constructive thoughts in the matter

As you are new here..it might be in your interest to also create some positive threads to assure you are not one of the banned members
