Post Ayn Rand on Religion

An old interview with the brilliant Russian philosopher Ayn Rand by Phil Donahue and a few others.

Quote:
Ayn Rand was a Russian-born American novelist, philosopher, playwright and screenwriter. She is widely known for her best-selling novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and for developing a philosophical system called Objectivism.

Rand advocated rational individualism and laissez-faire capitalism, categorically rejecting socialism, altruism, and religion. Her ideas remain both influential More..and controversial.

I don't know Ayn Rand much, but i know she influenced my favorite band lyricist, Neil Peart from RUSH.

I saw an vid of her being interviewed.
She brought a positive message for Humanity, and despised the 'Baron Bankers'.

Ayn Rand endorses and promotes service-to-self ideals. When I read her stuff years ago I was revolted by them, and now I understand why, because that is not my orientation at all.

I now have learned that she was mistress to a prominent illuminati leader, so it makes sense. I could never understand why people thought her books were so great, they are filled with selfish egomaniacal people who think they can do anything they want and don't care if their actions hurt others.

Yeah, i heard the same thing too. She was quite a controversial individual.
One thing that made back off much was that Alan Greenspan (ex Fed boss) was one of her friends sometime in her life. She lived in extreme poverty in her youth, that could explain her behaviour.

But it seems there is something in her message that overall IS empowering for humanity.

The message i got from her interview, was to get rid of our programmed need to depend on any institution (organised religions or whatsoever) to live a happy and confortable life.
She told there is no limits to your well-being but only the ones that you create.

She is human, and had weaknesses like all of us.

take care.

Yep, she probably knew all about the Law of Attraction. And of course I agree that you don't want religious institutions running your life. I think she was so popular in the 1950s because her books were considered very anti-communist, and people in the US were terrified of communism then. But there is a real lack of regard for collective humanity in her philosophy. Like, I'm going to relax here in my palatial apartment even though people are suffering outside...that has nothing to do with me, they are responsible for their own lives. Come to think of it, it sounds kind of Republican!
