Re: Moderator Election
Well, I was able to plead my case, and get my election thread moved back up to the Avalon section, but alas, it is banished back to the deep, dark pits of Camelot "off topic" once more.
If I were a pirate, I would say "Arghhh." Let not this minor set back to my campaign stand in the way of revolution! Vote Historycircus! |

Re: Moderator Election
You were the one who made: "I don't know" correspond w/ porn for some reason.
I probably would have chosen that one if not for the porn bit, but becaus of the strange options, I had to choose the "I don't care.. shut up." Maybe these extra bits (porn/shut up) were installed for humour sake, but I think they hurt your cause. |

Normally, I would say thanks for voting, but since you didn't pick an option that matters, I simply don't feel obligated. Those who voted "yes" or "no" know exactly what I mean. Vote HistoryCircus! |

That doesn't really make much sense to me. Quote:
Why even have options outside yes or no if you're going to deride those who choose those options (which you provided)? Do you think they'll be forced to give you the mod status if we all vote for you? This seems more like a popularity poll than an election to me. If anything corresponds to porn it would be this election which imo amounts to not much more than masturbation. |

I put the other options there for a joke. Not running a popularity contest - could care less. Just trying to make a point - one that I think has escaped you. Thanks anyway, and to the rest of you: Vote for me! |

Re: Moderator Election
historycircus,
Just because I've disagreed w/ your approach does not mean I'm ignorant. I understand that you think there's a rift between mods and members, and I applaud your efforts to help find a solution. An election is an interesting idea, but it seems like it would have probably been a good idea to simply suggest the idea of electing mods from the membership and then we could have nominated members that we each might think would be suitable. When you nominate yourself it makes it more about you and less about the idea of an election, hence the popularity contest remark. And I still don't see how "I don't know" (or cluelessness as you revised) corresponds to porn in any way. p.s. elections are normally secret ballots. |

I agree with you. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I thought about starting a thread titled "should we elect our mods" or something like that. But I thought throwing myself out as a candidate would get people thinking about it quicker than starting a debate thread. I knew I couldn't win - that was part of the fun. I think the people who inhabit Avalon should get together and nominate someone they think will moderate fairly. That was the seed I was trying to plant with this thead - and will continue to fight for until the bitter end (i.e., Dec. 1). Just wait for my concession speech - it will be a doozy . . . Unless, of course, I can get a few hundred "yes" votes - then the victory thing will force me to draft a victory speech. Anyway, I see the wisdom in your words, and I concede that my approach to the issue was not all that well thought out. Thanks for the reality check, Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks for the vote. |

Re: Moderator Election
Good stuff historycircus.
I'll admit I hadn't really read all that much from you before posting in this thread (which is why i didn't want to choose yes or no), but I've said before, I think first impressions are overrated. I can see that your intentions are good. So if I could vote again, I'd vote for ya. Happy (day after) Turkey Day to you hc. peace p.s. Dec. 1? That's the switch over date? I've been looking for that. |

Re: Moderator Election
Hai HC,
seeing this thread for the first time today. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to be a mod on Avalon unless not having enough trouble of his own yet.... |

God knows I don't really want to be a mod, and would have to juggle my scheldule just to do it part time. But that is what serving others is about - sacrifice. Between my personal and professional responsibilities, I already operate daily on a little less than the optimum amount of sleep. I don't care though - if I win, I'll make even more time. But I don't anticipate a victory - with only one more day to vote, and only eighty votes so far, my own criteria hasn't been met (even though I am winning according to percents). The majority of the people here don't believe elections are real, and always complain that they don't really have a voice in the power structures of the world. I see moderator elections as a way to alleviate that fact - just a little bit. That is all I was trying to do. I hope that after tomorrow, Avalonians will still think this is a good idea, and put someone else up for the vote. Good to hear from ya' Peer, Peace. |

Re: Moderator Election
Well my fellow Avalonians, the time has come. My campaign has had been hard fought, and I appreciate the kind words I have received from some of you – your support has been most appreciated and welcome. But alas, as I look at the poll count in these last few hours of the election, it is clear that my bid for first elected moderator of Avalon has failed – the experiment to bring the idealism we identify as absent from the physical world here to the digital has failed. I offer a few humble, parting observations for my supporters and detractors alike.
In the field of conspiracy research, as it revolves around global economics, political power, and exo-politics, there are those who blame every crop failure and famine on the amorphous “New World Order,” those who flatly deny the existence or aims of such a homicidally driven organization, and those who fall somewhere in between. So often our history and our modern world are reduced to simplistic absurdities for nothing more than to cater to our limited understandings - - we alter the facts to make them fit properly into our regimes of belief, even when the square peg we are pushing doesn’t fit into the triangular hole. We too often attempt to make it to market with the cart in front of the horse; to make our realities fit the theories we have invested with meaning, despite evidence to the contrary. I fall somewhere in the middle – I refuse to assign a “NWO” as the all powerful masters of our reality, but I do not fail to recognize the evidence that points toward cabalistic shadow regimes and economic manipulation of the masses. I truly pity those who have come this far – who have become awake – only to throw their hands up in this reality, declare themselves helpless, or plot their escape through their own cabalistic networks of spiritual enlightenment. There is an air of selfishness in that attitude made more odious by wearing a mask of “enlightenment” – the new paradigm I yearn for has no “NWO”, and no spiritual gurus - - for both are empty and tend to retard true spiritual development. You cannot achieve spiritual enlightenment through others; there are no “true” formulas. If it were that easy, the world would be a much different place. I recently was engaged in a conversation, and the person said “I will fight for nothing.” Have we been so browbeaten by the power structure that we believe in our own helplessness? Have we really come to the point where there is nothing left to fight for? Have we become so jaded, so cynical, that we have just given up? If we stand, at this critical moment in time, resigned to accept whatever fate befalls us, then we deserve whatever we get – and those who wish to escape this reality without attempting to solve its problems will suffer the same fate as the “NWO” – controllers and cowards alike will be cast off from the main body of humanity. Whatever the “NWO” is, whatever their agenda may be, they are not all powerful. They control the money, but they cannot control our spirits. They control the big guns, but they cannot control our hearts. TVs are still manufactured with “off” switches, and the fact that you are reading this post on a public forum (at least for now) tells me that George Orwell’s hellish vision of “1984” has not yet been realized. There is still time to change the systems that exist – from politics to the economy – and use them for their intended purposes: to live as free men and women, raise free children, and maintain a truly free society. With that being said, I cannot ignore that if the deck is not completely stacked yet, whatever the “NWO” is has begun shuffling the cards. The work of Perkins, Green, Larouche, and a host of others revolve around a central theme: that moneyed, private interests corrupt the social policy makers at home and abroad. That the very democracy at the core of the American narrative is being eaten away by the very cancer presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy warned us of all those years ago. Unfortunately, brothers and sisters, most are so concerned with putting food on the table from week to week that they are not interested in studying the cryptic sentiments of long dead white men in an effort to fix problems that appear to be far removed from them. Our mission, no matter how difficult it may be, needs to be getting our message out – not hoarding it among ourselves. Avalon should be a springboard for community action, not a nest for spiritual elitists. So it is up to us to change this reality – to stop whatever PTB structure or structures that wreak havoc on our lives and condemn us to a future of servitude and death. It is a time to fight – if we were nothing more than spirit beings the universe would not have wrapped us in so much flesh and muscle. It is our duty. Thank you dear Avalonians, and may the great power that gives us life, spins our mud-ball, and orders the cosmos bring you all peace; but more importantly may it give you strength and virtue in these trying times to come. |

Re: Moderator Election
How ironic is that History. You pleaded your case to the members of Avalon and Co. and fell short on the title of 'Mod'
However I noticed today you are now a 'Mod' over at astrovera without a campaign or hearing. |
