Default What is LOVE?

I've been reading lots of posts here about LOVE. I am wondering if anyone can define it. I have some thoughts and questions on what it may or may not be and would like to hear other ideas.
  • Is it a vibration or a feeling? Is it something you do? Both?
  • Are anger and LOVE mutually exclusive?
  • Is it possible to LOVE someone and hurt their feelings at the same time? If someone hurts my feelings, does that mean they don't LOVE me?
  • How far does it go? Should we be willing to die for someone we LOVE?
  • Are there people deserving of LOVE and others who aren't? Are there different levels of LOVE based on esteem?
  • Is there anyone you must LOVE or is it optional?

Love is a state of being. So it' not something you do.
Anger is an emotion, true love is not.

We must love all if we want to get out of here

God shines the sun on the evil and the good.....so we have to develop love for everyone.

It is both a feeling and an action..Love is well balanced that way.

  • Are anger and LOVE mutually exclusive?

Love and anger are both emotions born of passion...
  • Is it possible to LOVE someone and hurt their feelings at the same time? If someone hurts my feelings, does that mean they don't LOVE me?

    see previous comment
  • How far does it go? Should we be willing to die for someone we LOVE?

Should? no..there are NO rules to love...but Love itself is a guide..
  • Are there people deserving of LOVE and others who aren't? Are there different levels of LOVE based on esteem?

It depends on each person..for me..i have met very few people in my life that i do not love..
  • Is there anyone you must LOVE or is it optional?

    see above comment

Love is the question and the answer...

This how I see it:

1 It is form of perception.
2 yes
3 no and no it means your insecurities are in the way
4 your life, your choice
5 no and no, either it is love or is it not
6 everything is optional, or so we are told...

I think human animal mostly perceives love on non conscious level. A need to mate. Even while not wanting a child female will look for father qualities in a man. And even while on a "quest of up-most importance" man can get turned on by a pair melons and alike.

When cheated women will ask: do you love her BUT man will ask: where did he touch you

I think most people are not in love...they are just excited over the new experience...after that...when they get used to the experience...they either separate or stay together - economic safety, "used" to be with someone...etc

It is extremely superficial...

and yes I am more than aware that my "conclusions" lack additional elaboration...but there is simply no time to type an essay and it is a complex subject...

it reaches inside of you...even if one does not admit that...and it can make people react badly..so here is where I stop

Universal Love

This is the emanation that is most widely misunderstood as well as most difficult to identify and describe with words. This is all for a good reason as this is the part that connects us to the deepest parts of our higher aspects and much of the information that is shared in this connection is not verbal. Much has been written and said about love, so much that one is often left completely confused and overwhelmed with all the feelings, unable to distinguish the frequency of love with the more primal emotions such as attachment or pure instinct for survival of one’s self and its genetical offspring.

You can most easily recognize the parts that are universal love in the way that they are not bound to any limit or reason and they are the feelings that make you ‘know’ by feeling that you are connected with everything and everyone around you and that it deserves your utmost respect and help. If you go deeper you can begin to recognize the point of connection as being on a very deep level and a very distinctive frequency shared by everything else (When I say everything, I mean the full totality of the universe). This is where you start understanding and feeling that we are all indeed one at those deepest levels of our beings, and once focused on those levels, this immense connection is perceived as universal love.

Once you have settled down your primal emotions in the third chakra, you become fully open for the frequencies of universal love. The reason many people find it hard to let this energy flow through their life and influence their actions is because they are dominated with the primal emotions of fear for anything that is deemed negative. On a certain level the subconscious programming sees love as a threat, as if love makes them feel they should help their counterparts (the ones from which there is no logical advantage to be had), this will only strengthen their relative position and they can have a negative influence on them (according to the programming of the subconscious mind which sees everything in competitive terms of positive vs. negative).

Once you begin to understand the programming of the subconscious mind and you begin to be able to differentiate its signals, you can then fully open yourself and tune into the frequency that is universal love, whose source goes beyond the subconscious programming and is often in conflict with it.

This feeling of connection and respect to everything and everyone ultimately manifests as tolerance for everyone’s choices, acceptance of who and what they are without passing any judgments and the willingness to help them in their journey. All this of course, as long as they don’t interfere with your own path and as long as your intuition is guiding you to provide the help asked of you, which is something which will be covered more extensively later on in the book.

Another feeling which is tied to universal love although often misunderstood as a primal emotion is the feeling of sadness. Sadness is in fact a very useful feeling of a higher frequency. I mentioned earlier that often in new age literature fear is mentioned as being opposite of love, which is something I think only illusionary for reasons explained earlier. The true opposite of love is actually sadness.
If universal love can be best defined as the degree of connectedness to everything around us and we can feel it increase its flow whenever we increase our perception of this connectedness, sadness is then the opposite and can be felt whenever we feel the decrease of this connectedness. Sadness is very important to understand and be aware of in your own being as it is a powerful indicator and a guide telling you which of the paths lead away from universal love. For example if hurting other people makes you sad, this is a direct indicator that this is a path that leads away from universal love.

Sadness can be confusing because it is experienced not only when the degree of universal love is lowered but also when it is increased through a sudden surge. This seemingly little paradox is easily explained when you start dissecting at what happens when you experience such a shock of universal love. The reason for the sudden surge can be something of extreme importance to you, something for which you’ve piled up a lot of anticipation or feelings. It is the release of all these piled up feelings that actually makes you feel sadness further expressed as crying, which in turn unblocks all your pathways through which universal love can suddenly surge. The release of all this energy is perceived by the subconsciousness as a certain loss to some of its levels which in turn makes us feel the sadness. I am sure we have all felt sad even for circumstances which were highly negative to us, we knew they were highly negative but still at some part of our being we felt sad for not having them in our life anymore.

While universal or also called unconditional love is a needed basis from which one can hope to start entering into the higher aspects of being and a base on which the universe can be seen and understood, it is also a very delicate frequency which when out of balance can wreak havoc and create a lot of karma. This is why it is extremely important for one to be always aware of his level of universal love and keep it balanced at all times.

what is love ... always thought provoking loaded question ...

conditional to some ... unconditional to others ...

from another perspective ... love in the beyond just is ...
it is not an emotion ... it is not something to be attained ...
it is not a separation of who and what we are ...

love is neutral ...

in the beyond ... love is an incorporation of self ... of being and of all that is ...
love is oneness ... it is not a thing ... not something felt separate to who we are ... that we seek ... and try so hard to retrieve ...

love in the beyond ... is so neutral ... it is who we are ... our essence of being ...

just a different perspective ...
sometimes difficult to explain ...

nevertheless ...

love ya all ...

I've been to Ljubljana!!!! Plitvice, Opatija, Split, Dubrovnik, and Zagreb.

You're pretty much accurate as to love as defined by marriage, and stuff...

Love is natural energy. People distort natural energy, as parents completely twist their children into shape, to play their part in the puppet show.

Love is consciousness hitting the heart before it hits the mind.

The mind tries to control consciousness (subconsciously) so that it always has time to think before feeling.

Once the mind loses control, through spiritual purification, the heart gets opened to the now, as it was in early childhood, and love is just all there is, in Reality.

Im with Kriya on this.
LOVE has no opposite.
There is no opposite to God, it is just not possible.
What we tend to call love can quickly turn to disatisfaction.

"You promised to make me happy!!! stuff.
Unconditional love has no conditions attached and is not actually a personal event. All souls are love equally. It does not however condone that which is inapropriate. It does have discernment.

Thats my understanding.

Love out of two makes One.

These are truisms that only kids can express. A group of
professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8
year-olds "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could
have imagined.

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over
and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for
her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too.
That's love."- Rebecca - age 8

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is
different. You know that your name is safe in their
mouth."- Billy - age 4

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving
cologne and they go out and smell each other." - Karl - age 5

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your
French fries without making them give you any of theirs."
-Chrissy - age 6

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes
a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
- Danny - age 7

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of
kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My
mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss."
-Emily - age 8

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop
opening presents and listen."- Bobby - age 5

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a
friend who you hate."- Nikka - age 6

"There are two kinds of love. Our love. God's love. But God
makes both kinds of them."- Jenny - age 4

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears
it everyday." -Noelle - age 7

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are
still friends even after they know each other so well."
-Tommy - age 6

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and scared. I
looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving
and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared
anymore."- Cindy - age 8

"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone
else kissing me to sleep at night."- Clare - Age 5

"Love is when mommy gives daddy the best piece of chicken."
-Elaine - age 5

"Love is when mommy sees daddy smelly and sweaty and still says
he is handsomer than Robert Redford."- Chris - age 8

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left
him alone all day."- Mary Ann - age 4

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her
old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."- Lauren - age 4

"I let my big sister pick on me because my Mom says she only
picks on me because she loves me. So I pick on my baby sister
because I love her." - Bethany - age 4

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and
little stars come out of you."- Karen - age 7

"Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and she doesn't
think it's gross."- Mark - age 6

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But
if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."
-Jessica - age 8

I Love You all
