What's up with Tom?
OK I just saw an advertisement for the movie "Valkyrie", in which Tom Cruise seems to play some sort of NAZI PIRATE

Re: What's up with Tom?
He's actually playing one of the few good guys in the Nazi regime. Project Valkyrie was a plot conceived by several high-ranking German officers to assassinate Hitler, take over the government, expose corruption, prosecute several of the remaining leaders, and end the war. They strongly disagreed with the way their country was going, particularly (if I remember correctly) the "final solution" to the "Jewish problem".
The plan called for a bomb to be placed in a briefcase under the war planning conference table close enough to Hitler to kill him and perhaps a few of the more heinous criminals in his cabinet while leaving themselves and others relatively unharmed. When the time came, the briefcase was placed under the table at Hitler's end of the table on the inside (toward the middle of the table) of the thick table support. The thought was that when it went off, it would shatter the table support and cause loads of splinters and larger wood shrapnel to kill Hitler. Unfortunately for the plotters, the table support was too strong and thick, and rather than killing Hitler, it only injured him. Hitler's injuries were fairly severe and included permanent hearing loss and heavy nerve damage to his arm which resulted in his arm being practically useless for the rest of his life. It also shocked and angered him that members of his "trusted" advisory council had managed to carry out the plot at all, and it made him even more paranoid and distrustful than he already was. In the end, all of the plotters were rooted out and killed in rather unpleasant and painful ways, and no other (known) attempts were made on Hitler's life. |

Re: What's up with Tom?
This is a true story about the time 5 officers in the Third Reich tried to assassinate Hitler. Cruise plays Stauffenberger (I believe his name was) who was a high ranking officer who hated what Hitler was doing and took the initiative to try to assassinate him at his Wolf's Lair, I believe, where Hitler held a big meeting with his staff. Stauffenberger left the bomb that was hidden in a briefcase under the table where Hitler was perusing a map or papers, the bomb went off, but it did not kill him.
This is not a conspiracy plot, although Hitler at the time might have thought that himself! I plan to go see the movie. |

Quote:
Something about Hitler is that he narrowly escaped death by assassination many times due to synchnonicities. In the plot the film is about someone moved the bag that contained the bomb from under the table to beside the table- as it was in the way of their feet. This small distance meant that Hitler survived with only minor injuries, which had the bag not been moved experts say Hitler would have perished. There are a few but only one other comes to mind at the moment. When Hitler was still on the beer hall speaking circuit, someone planted a bomb right near where he would be standing when he made his speech that night. For some reason, Hitler cut the speech short and 20 minutes later (when Hitler would normally still be speaking) the bomb went off. Very weird. |
