Prof Roubini said he would not be surprised if the US and other countries soon had to close their stock markets for more than a week to halt descent into "sheer panic".

the economist warned that the world is heading for a protracted recession that will end the US’s financial dominance.

"It’s the beginning of the decline of the US financial empire. The Great Depression ended in a massive war. I hope that’s not going to happen

but it’s pretty ugly now," Prof Roubini said.

I have to agree completely with Mmerlin.It's a done deal.The stage we are in is the Economic part of the war.We (USA) did the same thing to USSR back in the 80's resulting in their collapse.The difference here is that we took advantage of it by moving in capitalism and MCDonalds ect.They will move in tanks and troops.
The parrallels are oddly familiar.They were being bled dry in Afghanistan during the 80's in a war of attrition they couldn't win.We are doing way more spending then they did for our adventures into Iraq and Afghanistan.PLUS,we are getting hammered by natural disasters which are expensive to fix.Even if nothing else goes wrong, our leadership sucks and will suck into the future.The damage has pretty much been done.The enemies of the free world are sitting back and letting us die from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.They will then stomp on our corpse when they feel the time is right for them to strike.
I can sympathize with a lot of people's attitudes who want to remain positive and call people like me fear - mongers and negative.But, im only stating the truth.If you don't like it then maybe you are either naive or living in a fantasy world.As far as a paradigm shift occuring in here or anywhere for that matter,there is always the problem with too little too late.The wake up needed to happen years ago,not a few months away from a complete collapse of the world as you know it.It's merely a case of CONSEQUENCES for decades of mistakes that had no immediate reprocussions.NOW the reprocussions come and everyone is all gung ho about changing their ways and telling everyone to wake-up.TOO LATE....

Winton's Harding `Worries' About Exchange Shutdowns, Holds Cash

Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) -- David Harding, founder of $15.5 billion Winton Capital Management LLC, said he is holding more cash on the possibility that exchanges may be closed.

``The thing I worry about is they shut exchanges,'' Harding said at the Hedge 2008 conference in London yesterday. ``If at all possible, I don't want to be exposed to that with my clients' money.''

Harding, 47, who is the ``H'' in the AHL Diversified Plc computerized trading program founded in 1987 and run by Man Group Plc, said Winton has about 95 percent of its assets in U.S. Treasury bills and cash or cash equivalents. That compares with about 90 percent a year ago. Futures markets require less cash up front to buy contracts than other investments such as stocks. Winton's cash balances are held in segregated accounts at two different custodian banks, rather than with prime brokerages, which Winton doesn't use.

Nouriel Roubini, the New York University Professor who spoke at the same conference, told delegates ``don't be surprised'' if policymakers shut exchanges. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi roiled markets on Oct. 10, first saying world leaders were discussing shutting down global financial exchanges, and then saying he didn't mean it.

Harding, who often says the biggest risk to so-called managed futures trading systems such as his is a market closure, said he thinks it unlikely regulators will taking such drastic measures. Still, the chances of them doing so have risen, he said.

Running Lower Risk

``Everything for me is a probability,'' he said in an interview. ``Because there's a probability an exchange can be shut down, I'm running lower risk.''

The Winton Futures Fund, Harding's largest fund at $7 billion, has risen about 14 percent this year compared with the drop of 9.4 percent through September for a weighted composite index of hedge funds tracked by Hedge Fund Research Inc.

Harding said his funds are among those that have seen an increase in redemption notices to pull money out.

``They're not redeeming because we've done something wrong, or they don't like the cut of our jib, it's because they need the money,'' said Harding. ``I'm glad we're in a position where we can give them their money back.''

Harding, whose programs trade more than 100 different futures contracts on 28 exchanges around the globe, admitted he may be ``paranoid'' with his concern that major exchanges could be shuttered to stall market declines.

``You might think we're paranoid, but what we haven't yet done is buy farms in the mountains or gold coins,'' he said.

Still, Harding said he should have shown more caution for his personal account. He had an account with Lehman Brothers Investment Management, which is now frozen in the world's largest bankruptcy.

Chaos is upon us, but not necessarily more war. Heck, we've already got how many wars going on already?

I'd like to point out that nuclear bombs have only been used one time, back in 1945, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In the ensuing 63 years, despite thousands and thousands of them being made, not one has been used. Considering the evil madmen who have been running the world during that period, as well as the numerous sociopathic loose cannons rolling around on deck, that's pretty amazing, don't you think? They certainly haven't hesitated to kill miilions with any other kind of weapon, but no nukes. That cannot be because of any moral compunction; psychopaths have no moral compunction. There are only two reasons I can think of why they haven't been used: Either intervention by the forces of creation, or they simply don't work, they are a hoax perpetrated upon us by the military/industrial complex to bleed us dry of tax money over the past sixty-some years. Which is true doesn't much matter; I would argue that the fact that they haven't been used indicates that they won't be used.

Oh we will and must descend into the chaos. Isn't that necessary? I'm minded of a butterfly's chrysalis; The caterpillar forms the chrysalis, then dissolves into soup inside it. All form and structure disappear for a time, only to re-form and emerge with brilliant wings.

Be glad this is upon is; we have waited long enough. Finally our opportunity to create the new dream is here.
