Default India's Chandrayaan-1 now in lunar orbit!

Chandrayaan-1 now in lunar orbit

10 November 2008
Chandrayaan-1, the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) lunar orbiter, was captured into orbit around the Moon on 8 November. One day later, the spacecraft performed a manoeuvre that lowered the closest point of its orbit down to 200 km from the Moon.

The spacecraft’s liquid-fuel propelled engine was fired at 12:21 CET (16:51 Indian Standard Time) when it was at a distance of about 500 km from the Moon. This reduced the spacecraft’s velocity, enabling the Moon’s gravitational field to capture Chandrayaan-1 into lunar orbit. In this configuration, the orbit’s point closest to the lunar surface was at 504 km and the spacecraft circled the Moon in 11 hours.

This lunar orbit insertion manoeuvre was executed from the Chandrayaan-1 Spacecraft Control Centre at ISRO’s Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network at Bangalore. The performance of all the systems on board Chandrayaan-1 was registered as normal.

Earth, seen from Chandrayaan-1
Yesterday, at 15:33 CET (20:03 Indian Standard Time), the spacecraft’s engine was fired for about 57 seconds, reducing the orbit’s point closest to the lunar surface to 200 km while the farthest point remained unchanged at 7502 km. In this elliptical orbit, Chandrayaan-1 takes about ten and a half hours to circle the Moon once.

Over the next few days, the height of the spacecraft’s orbit around the Moon will be carefully reduced in steps to achieve a final 100-km polar lunar orbit. The Moon Impact Probe (MIP) will then be released to hit the lunar surface, after which the other instruments on board will be turned on.

Chandrayaan-1 mission profile
Chandrayaan-1 was launched on 22 October by from India’s spaceport at Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. The launcher placed the spacecraft in an elliptical orbit around Earth.

In the past two weeks, the Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC), one of the eleven scientific instruments of the spacecraft, was successfully operated twice to take pictures.

Notes for editors:

Chandrayaan-1, India’s first mission to venture beyond Earth’s orbit, is led by ISRO. ESA has coordinated and supported the provision of the three European instruments on board (C1XS, SARA, SIR-2), and assisted ISRO in areas such as flight dynamics and is supporting data archiving and processing. As a result of the collaboration, ESA and ISRO will share the data from their respective instruments. Other international partners in the mission include Bulgaria and the USA.

You can follow the journey from this site: http://www.chandrayaan-i.com/

And i hope that they will put out all the images they will receive, that would indeed be a wakening call for many.

Interesting! I hope it doesnt malfunction, or get "lost" in space. Before we can see shots of the dark side of the moon. Do you think they have already discussed what they can and cannot show us with nasa ??

it seems that they are talking of putting a landrover on the moon, that would be awesome indeed!

again, lets hope they arent shy with the pictures. But then again, India doesnt seem to cover up as much as other countries, im thinking of the giant skeletons in India as well as other things.
So lets hope for the best.

Excellent news! India is very open about their information about science and even the UFO issue. I'm eager to see what kind of images and information that they decide to release.

Congratulations India!

There IS no DARK SIDE OF THE MOON....

And here is the first picture

No they are not putting a land rover up there. They are dropping an impactor with a flag on it to claim turf.

O.K. not a rover but more than a flag pole!Main objectives:

Analyse geological, mineralogical and topographical aspects of the lunar surface in unprecedented detail
Study the vertical distribution of crustal material
Investigate the processes that led to the formation of craters, maria and basins on the Moon
Explore space weathering processes, that result from the interaction of the solar wind and cosmic rays with the Moon’s surface
Analyse the magnetic anomalies on the lunar surface
Search for ices at the poles
Produce 3D maps of regions of particular scientific interest at high spatial resolution (5-10 m)
Drop an impact probe on the lunar surface to test near-surface properties and test impact technology

Gee-Whizz, Gizmo Dudes, I sure hope those who already have Bases there (especially on the 'Dark-Side', HaHa ) don't take the Impact Probe dropping through their Roof as a sign of Hostility. Sure would not want to have a Space War get started for the sake of Science.

For the Peace among All Beings.

November 15, 2008 - India's Lunar Orbiter
Crash-Lands Probe On Moon's South Pole.

The MIP aimed to transmit ground images and kick up dust, which instruments in Chandrayaan-1 will analyze. ISRO: “A principal objective is to look for Helium 3, an isotope which is very rare on earth, but could be more plentiful on the moon and could power nuclear fusion, a valuable source of energy in the future.” India has joined Chinese and Japanese spacecraft also currently orbiting the moon in what is shaping up to be a 21st Century space race to build bases on the moon and to mine its minerals. The Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft was launched on October 22, 2008, from the Sriharikota Space Center in southern India.

i love the black and white photo of earth from the spacecraft, I wonder if they have fetched a colour camera with them.

Because India and NASA are working closely together, then the cover-up has already begun. NASA is the official agency charged with covering up extraterrestrial visitation and the international secret space program. The reason NASA is taking a direct interest in what India is doing is to keep the lid closed as tightly as possible on any ET information.

The paradigm of denial must be maintained. The secret space program that has been in operation for decades must be protected. The moon bases (both human and ET created) must not be revealed in any of the released photos, and they certainly don't want the public to know about any of this.

Other than that... India and NASA appear to be cooperating in a friendly manner. (As long as India plays by NASA's rules!)

Why what difference would it make if the supposed secret space program was exposed?

What difference would it make to you & me?

Take your camera and photograph the moon yourself, then lets see your stars.
