Default Stan Tenen and the Sacred Apple

Thought it was about time to rekindle with some old friends.

Anyone heard of Stan Tenen?

"The Meru Project has discovered an extraordinary and unexpected geometric metaphor in the letter-sequence of the Hebrew text of Genesis that underlies and is held in common by the spiritual traditions of the ancient world. This metaphor models embryonic growth and self-organization. It applies to all whole systems, including those as seemingly diverse as meditational practices and the mathematics fundamental to physics and cosmology...Meru Project findings demonstrate that the relationship between physical theory and consciousness, expressed in explicit geometric metaphor, was understood and developed several thousand years ago."

(The Meru Project is based on 30 years of research by Stan Tenen into the origin and nature of the Hebrew alphabet, and the mathematical structure underlying the sequence of letters of the Hebrew text of Genesis. The Project is sponsored by the Meru Foundation, registered California 501(c)(3) private nonprofit research and educational corporation founded in 1983.)

The Intuition Network, A Thinking Allowed Television Underwriter, presents the following transcript from the series Thinking Allowed, Conversations On the Leading Edge of Knowledge and Discovery, with Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove.

EXPLORING SACRED ALPHABETS with STAN TENEN

JM: Hello and welcome. I'm Jeffrey Mishlove. Today will be exploring the origins of sacred alphabets. With me is Stan Tenen, director of research of the MERU Foundation in San Anselmo California. For the past twenty years Stan has been exploring the physical, geometric and symbolic principles behind sacred language. He's produced a number of video tapes on this subject including, Geometric Metaphors of Life, The Dance of the Hebrew Letters, and A Matrix of Meaning for Sacred Alphabets. Welcome Stan.

ST: Thank you Jeffrey. It's very nice to be here.

JM: It's good to be with you. You know the ancient traditions the Kabbalah and the various most early traditions associated with sacred languages around the world describe these languages in ways that are very different than the way we have come today to think about the languages we use.

ST: They describe the letters as sacred, and in many cases they claim that the letters are the elements of creation. And the question comes up immediately, how could an intelligent person understand how a letter, perhaps written on a page, could be an element of creation in a meaningful way? And I believe that they had an understanding that made that quite meaningful.

JM: Yes, the Hebrew Kabbalists for example suggest that in the sacred scriptures if you change one letter that you got the whole formula, the whole principle wrong.

ST: Right, that's exactly so. The teaching is that the letters existed in the order in these cannonized sacred text before the letters were divided up into words to form a story. And to change any letter would be, well in modern sense if we had change a digit in the decimal expansion for pie it would no longer be pie and it wouldn't be a transendetal mathematical function. If you would have changed a letter in one of these sacred texts, it would no longer serve its transcendental function.

JM: And I think your use of the mathematical metaphor here is not just an accident.

ST: No not at all because mathematically we understand the idea of truth as modeling something experimental that we find in the real world. If someone says they have a truth and they use a spiritual sense we tend to laugh at them. Your truth, your truth, whose truth is truth? But if these texts we cannonized based on the fact that the sequence of letters was as precise and explicit as the sequence of digits in say a universal constant like pie, they would only have a whole different understanding of what might have been meant by the various sages of these various traditions claiming they had the truth. It's not so much a spiritual claim as a technical claim based on an experiment and a rigorous definition.

"You know where self-reference is most obvious? It's in a very common place. It's when we talk about life profligating: chicken and egg; chicken and egg; chicken and egg. Acorn and oak tree; acorn and oak tree. The introduction to one of the most famous Kabbalistic works called the Sephir Zohar -- The Book of Splendor quotes from Genesis and it says, "Fruit tree yielding fruit whose seed is in itself." Now, if we take the fruit of the fruit tree, which is after all in the form of the torus, and if you slice through a fruit like a apple, you will find that it's dimpled in at the stem and the flower end, and in the middle there are seeds, and that outside there are these two cross sections which are sort of elliptical. It's as if you had a sphere that was dimpled in to make a doughnut out of it. Now, if you were to spiral up from the seeds around the stem and come up out over the volume of the fruit, you could literally map the life cycle of the apple tree-- the fruit tree onto the fruit extending from its seed up around its stem and out into its fullness. That self embedding putting a pack of seeds inside the volume of a fruit is something we know from physics immediately because we know if we want to make a hypercube, we put a little cube inside of a big cube.

If we want to make a hypersphere, we could put a little sphere inside of a big sphere. Well, that's what a fruit is. A fruit has its seeds in the middle. It's a cluster, a little sphere in a bigger sphere. And if we were to allow the fruit to grow, the seeds in the middle would themselves grow into a fruit tree with new fruit hanging on it. So if we put both ends of the process with the innermost inside the seeds with the outside of the fruit together and expand them with the fruit tree, we have this complete

self-referential model and it's a hyperdimensional model. If anyone ever asks you to show them a hypersphere-- a four-dimensional sphere, just pick-up a fruit and say that's a hypersphere because it goes in itself from seed to its fullness."

Now lets have a look the Druids Apple shall we.

The Druids

When the first Christian missionaries arrived in North West Europe they encountered a people known as the Celts with a reverence for Apples.

Of course the people didn’t refer to themselves by that name. They used whatever their tribal designation was. Loyalty to the tribe was of first importance. Though they were divided as tribes they generally shared a common spirituality. A spirituality based on closeness to the land, to the seasons and a reverence for the forces of nature that could nurture them or destroy them. The Priests and Judges of their spirituality were the Druids. The Druids believed that Apples were sacred,

So the Christians told the story of Adam and Eve and though their Bible held no reference to Apples, they told the people that the forbidden fruit was the same fruit that the Druids held as sacred. They spread the story that the Apple was the fruit used by their god of evil to draw Adam and Eve into wickedness and death. The story can still be heard today but that twisting of the tale was pure propaganda.

So why was the Apple sacred to the Druids? What was the secret that the Christians wanted to hide?

The secret of the Apple

It was believed in those days that the World was made of five elements; those elements were; Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The fifth element that bound them all together was Spirit. These elements were usually represented by a Pentacle, a five pointed star. If you take an Apple and place it on its side and instead of cutting it from stem to flower, cut it through the equator. You will see that in the center of an apple is a Pentacle. Inside the Pentacle lie the Apple seeds so the pentacle holds the seeds of life. If anyone would eat the Apple seeds they would detect a somewhat bitter taste. This is because Apple seeds contain cyanide. A very small dose and quite harmless but a large enough quantity could be lethal. So the Apple contains a Pentacle with the seeds of Life and Death.

This was the secret of the Apple. The reason why it was so sacred and holds such an important place in the spiritual life of those of us today who seek the wisdom of our forefathers, lies in its symbolism. A simple fruit that nourishes nurtures and teaches a lesson that reaches out of our past into our lives today.

Scientific Abstract of the Meru Research

This work involves the investigation of highly symmetrical mathematical patterns in the text of Genesis in Hebrew. These patterns become apparent when each letter in the twenty seven letter alphabet is treated as a number in base three. The alphabet represents a 3 x 3 x 3 matrix with each letter a triplet of 0's, 1's and 2's. The first verse, which contains twenty eight letters, is treated like a string of beads and wound up to form a spiral pattern arranged with each letter on one of eight radial axis of symmetry. Duplicate letters then align next to each other, and the other letters pair with their opposites (0,1,2 with 2,1,0 etc). In addition, the first letter links to the last letter of the first verse, so the Torah defines the mathematical topology of a torus. Computer studies have shown that similar patterns continue throughout the text.

The torus may be the most fundamental model of dynamic process. If one visualizes the torus as a smoke ring, i.e. the consequence of a first word, or first breath, making a first distinction between inside and outside, then it becomes apparent how the vorticular dynamics of process may give rise to this form. In topology, the most fundamental knot, the 3, 2 torus knot, has three lobes. This knot may be visualized as a continuous string on the surface of a torus which winds through the center three times. Only half of one lobe of this knot is required to mathematically define the shape of the torus. This path starts at the center, spirals up and out until it reaches the crest of the horizon and falls over the edge toward the equator.

This path may model both material events and sequences of consciousness. To model an object changing in time requires an extra dimension, thus implying hyper-dimensional geometry. The relationship between normal consciousness and spiritual awareness may also be seen as a hyper-dimensional shift. The apple models a torus as a dimpled sphere in hyper-space. The seed unfurls to become the whole tree as the spiral unfurls to the event horizon; then descends to define the outline of the new apple. Here the spiral path traced on the apple's surface becomes a model of its dynamic life process in space and time. A fruit tree bearing fruit whose seed is in itself. This spiral path might also be called, the serpent with the apple.

An inverted spiral path may be visualized on ones own hand. Imagine holding a giant apple with your thumb inside its center and your finger tips touching its equator. The spiral starts at the tip of your thumb nail, winds down toward your palm, around your thumb, across your palm and up to your finger tip. This one and a half turn spiral is highly asymmetrical. It has a unique silhouette in each orientation. These silhouettes correspond to the oldest versions of the Hebrew letters. Thus the letters of the first verse describe a coded sequence which defines a fundamental shape whose shadows generate the letters.

Hypertorus
Produced by Andy Burbanks

If we take a vector from the origin to a point, and rotate that vector about the origin, then the point traces a circular path. If we do the same to another vector, about a different axis this time, and add the two together, then the resulting end-point will spiral around a donut or "torus'', which has a two-dimensional curved surface in 3-d space.
By adding a third vector, rotating about yet a different axis, we find that the end-point spirals around the 3-d surface of a "hypertorus'' in four-dimensional space.

Note: The projection into three dimensional space was achieved here by selecting a point in 4-space and "casting shadows'' from that point onto a 3-dimensional slice of the space. The fourth dimension is then made more apparent as extra depth in the image (objects that are closer to the camera in 4-space appear to bulge outward towards us, whereas objects further away in the 4th direction appear to shrink away)

In geometry, a torus (pl. tori) is a surface of revolution generated by revolving a circle in three dimensional space about an axis coplanar with the circle. In most contexts it is assumed that the axis does not touch the circle and in this case the surface has a ring shape and is called a ring torus or simply torus if the ring shape is implicit. Other types of torus include the horn torus, which is generated when the axis is tangent to the circle, and the spindle torus, which is generated when the axis is a chord of the circle. A degenerate case is when the axis is a diameter of the circle and surface is a sphere. The ring torus bounds a solid known as a toroid. The adjective toroidal can be applied to tori, toroids or, more generally, any ring shape as in toroidal inductors and transformers. Real world examples of (approximately) toroidal objects include doughnuts, inner tubes, many lifebuoys, O-rings and Vortex rings.
In topology, a ring torus is homeomorphic to the Cartesian product of two circles: S1 × S1, and the latter is taken to be the definition in that context. It is a compact 2-manifold of genus 2. The ring torus is one way to embed this space into Euclidean space, but another way to do this is the Cartesian product of the embedding of S1 in the plane. This produces a geometric object called the Clifford torus, surface in 4-space.
The word torus comes from the Latin word meaning cushion.

Nassim Haramein explains this as the Coriolis Effect

In the 'Crossing the Event horizon preview at 1:50 you can see a 3D animation of the coriolis effect. Watch the dynamics. Vibrational energy expanding and contracting to singularity....the fractal universe.

Thanks for posting this.

The fractal universe has been long understood by many even before the term was coined.

This gives us the true meaning to "As above so below".

Now apply this to the Voynich mauscripts and and solve an age old mystery! Or just email the voynich scholars with clues and little bits of truths and watch them get wound up!
